Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

Right behavior is not determined by how much less wrong it is than another wrong. It is irrelevant how wrong some other behavior is. One cannot steal gum from a crooked business and say, "Theft is immoral? Look at him! He cons people out of millions!". The immoral behavior is isolated and cannot justify your own wrong actions. The judgment is on you, solely, not weighted by another. The reason is because, once you start pointing fingers, it leads to a chain reaction of immoral behavior, and the whole sliding scale drops lower making the world worse.

Akai doesn't do things right. There's no disputing that. They don't even appear to exist anymore. When I emailed them, I got a response from [email protected], "Akai Professional | Alesis | Numark | Ion Audio". What is that? It's a bunch of brand names with no solid coherent company behind them. Akai doesn't exist, it's just a shell name that is used by a mess of a corporation that is in control of the assets previously owned by Akai.

To determine what is right and wrong, you need to step through every cause and effect that occurs due to your action, including those that branch off from them. If you weigh what you're proposing carefully, you can see why it is wrong, where the costs go, why it makes things worse in the longrun in order to elevate your temporary gain. That's why it is wrong, not because Akai can't build anything quality, and is unable to maintain products or help customers.

Corporations have a specific procedure in place for a reason. It isn't necessarily what's best or easiest for you the customer, it's what makes it possible to organize large amounts of people and resources into something that works. If everyone disagrees with those procedures and takes it upon themselves to find ways to bypass them, the costs are either shifted back to the honest consumers, or the business cannot sustain itself and dissolves into nothing.

You should either follow their procedure, or stop enabling them. By continuing to use the MPC you are supporting that which does not support you. Find another way, invent another way. If you want to keep using the modern MPC models for time to come, you'll need more parts in the future anyways. This is not a one-time thing. Even if they knew they were selling defective parts, the right response is not to try and strike back, but ignore and walk away.

The biggest thing you can do to hurt Akai is stop using their product. Tell people why, suffocate them by strangling the income line. The company that owns Akai now are not deserving of the respected legacy name of "Akai MPC". They are riding on past innovations, conning people by packaging poor quality machines under that once respected name. People buy because it's Akai MPC, not because the hardware and software is good quality.

Channel your hate into something that makes a difference, not just for you, but everyone. Even if you stole 5 new 2500s from Akai directly, it only hurts other consumers. Akai keeps going, shifting their losses onto us. You're the one who is selfishly helped. Akai does nothing different to stop this practice, or pay retribution to all the others out there like you. They can't all steal a MPC, find a floor model to swap parts. You need to think about them too.

ya know Jamon.. honestly.. I agree with ALOT of what you said.

but also .. honestly.. I just dont care about that sh!t right now.

I am sick spending my hard earned money, wisely, after spending my time researching products, and purchasing over a decade and watching the quality of musical instruments and devices plummet, and in turn, having to be inconvenienced by it personally, when others can purchase the same exact product and "get lucky" by not getting a problematic or defective one, when I do the same thing, and get screwed? so I have to come out of pocket FURTHER to send it to them? They should pay to ship it both ways, and offer me a discount on future products.

And Despite what you might think.. Akai, or Numark.. who ever.. is passing the costs on to us and everybody ALREADY, and still continuing to make products with cheap and garbage components. I dont mind paying for something but it better work right.
And I am not gonna boycott them, or start to tell my friends to forget the MPC, because when it works it works GREAT. I just the want the same thing every one else paid for WITHOUT the extra hassle and trouble and waste of time and money!!!
but that is all I am asking for.. For what I have to work to SPEC. and for something that they have ACKNOWLEDGED as being a KNOWN ISSUE, be dealt with in a more responsible fashion.
Since they do not, I will take things into my own hands.. And I hate to break it to ya, but Im NOT gonna lose sleep over it.

What I do lose sleep over... Is problems with MY customers. In my business, when I deal with a customer, if they are not completely satisfied, or if they have a problem with my work.. I MAKE IT RIGHT. In the end it may cost me time and money. But if they pay me for my work, I see to it that they are satisfied. As a result 90% of my clientele comes from word of mouth.

You are right though... The sliding scale has certainly tipped in the opposite direction. as a result, companies like Nukai are able to exercise this kind of behavior and get away with it. But its Their greed that tips the scale. Not my behavior.
whether I send it to them and they replace the bad part, or whether I get that part from another mpc, in the end, the act is still akai replacing the part. I just refuse to pay MORE than everyone else to have a working mpc.

thats it.. so im gonna do what Im gonna do. Im NOT going to buy a NEW one and do it. FLOOR MODEL.
the entire reason I have NOT done this yet is because I have NOT found one. If in which case i dont I will be FORCED to send it after all. but that is a LAST resort.

SO like I said Jamon.. I understand what your saying.. I see your point. And Agree with you 90%. But you see...
right now "I just dont care"
I care about them about as much as they care about me right now. it is what it is.

I think I cant speak for Myself AND Jamon in saying "we are not babies and bitches" in here.
And we are not squabbling.. Jamon and I are having a mature discussion. Not name calling and spitting hate at each other.

Honestly, While he may think less of me for my actions regarding our conversation.. I don't think any less of him.
I respect his opinion. I just respectfully disagree in this one particular scenario.
thats that. But its not gonna end with the thread getting locked, and us calling each other hateful names.

I won't lose sleep over you doing it either, as I see countless examples of people compromising their morality every day. Just explaining why I think it's wrong, hopefully so we can try to move towards a better world, instead of this sliding down we seem to be doing.

If that was my situation, I'd probably just buy a new one, send the other back for repair, and sell it after it returns explaining to the buyer that it was just fixed by Akai.

Or to send them a message, send them the old one with a bill for the expenses they caused. Then publish information about the defect so others can be aware, and Akai's response.

I couldn't agree more. I've wasted countless days of my life dealing with this kind of sh*t over and over again because manufacturers and dealers standards have plummeted over the years. It took me three tries to get a a decent MPC2500, three tries for a Moog LP, four tries for a Tascam D3200, and three tries for an Eventide H8000FW, all due to poor QC at the manufacturer, or poor packaging on the dealers part, to name a few.

yeah man.. I mean although its not acceptable.. I can see this happening on a entry level consumer level.
for instance.. it took my cousin 3 tries to get a non defective Canon HV30 camera before he got a good one.
Lucky for him he found the issue with the 30 day return period each time.
But on gear thats supposed to be professional grade music production equipment?
I mean MPC has been the standard in drum machines for a LONG time.. its not acceptable.

It would be one thing if I could march down to GC with my receipt after 5 months for an exchange (a couple of times)lol
but I cant.
I came up with an idea tho.. Im going to talk with the manager at sam ash, whom I have become pretty cool with, and ASK if he will allow me to do this knowingly. And Ill buy him a 12 pack or something.
then he can just RTV his floor model to akai and everyone is happy.
except for Akai and Jamon.. LOL
j/k

btw anyone that agree's with Jamon 110% is more than welcome to either A) GIVE me the money to ship my mpc to akai, or B) give me the money to purchase the 375 dollar (mpcstuff overpriced) PC board.
choice is yours..

How much is shipping? How many Akai reps did you ask to reimburse you?

about 105 bucks overnight.. and I asked 1.
they wont pay to reimburse you to ship it to then.. they feel they are doing enough to ship it BACK.

It'd be nice if they'd just send you parts. I dislike the warranty process also, and usually just skip it and accept my loss. One manufacturer sent me a bunch of parts for a product once, so I could repair at home. More should have that attitude.

But you're probably being too sensitive about ground shipping. A week ago I ordered a MPC-2500, and MusiciansFriend.com seems to have made multiple mistakes, causing delays and re-routings. That thing is on the ground, in a truck somewhere, and has been for 5 days, and will be again all day tomorrow.

I've shipped enough stuff like this ground, cross-country, to know what to expect, and I don't expect it to influence the lifetime quality of the MPC. It should arrive in one solid working piece, and continue to work based more on Akai's manufacturing decisions than a week of vibrations on a truck.

If I were Akai I wouldn't pay for overnight air either, it isn't necessary. You're not sending a kidney or delicate heirloom, it's a solidstate electronic device. Remove any drives you have with moving parts, if you have them. Then there is nothing moving as most vibration is absorbed around it.

If their components are so weak they can't even handle a few days on a truck then it's not a machine worth investing in, since it won't outlive the company, and parts will become scarce. Plus if you can break more stuff on the way there, that's more for them to fix.

Ouch. The cards are stacked against you, IMO. You ordered it from MF, most of the products they sell sustain damage before it leaves their warehouse. Those guys are monkeys.

Ya, which is the reason for sharing. If it arrives in perfect working condition, there shouldn't be much concern shipping it ground to Akai. Or at least one of the cheaper 3-day services. Overnight is overkill.

I ordered my Eventide H8000FW from them cause I got 20% off. The first one I got from them had a badly bent faceplate, either from them or UPS. Oh, and MF didn't double box it. Why would anyone be dumb enough not to double box a $5500. processor? MF loves to ruin gear is all I can come up with.
