Macintosh Heads - question about ProTools

Any Macintosh heads that run Dual OSs?
I'm runnin 9.2 w. ProTools 5.1 (32 Track) w/ a Digi001,
and would like to rock Panther w/ 6.4, having
a dual OS w. two protools versions to run separately.
I would like some tips or anything I should watch out for
in terms of conflicts,
from anyone who actually does this
exact steeze.

I don't have experience with PT on two OSs, but I run 9.2 and 10.28, Logic is my main seq. Why do you want to have the two systems? Originally I thought that I'd use 9 until 10 was cool with audio units/stability etc, but I have honestly not booted up 9 for about 10 months. That's a lie, I booted it the other day just to ave a look around, but that lastes about 3 minutes before I was back in 10 doing the work.

So... Why do wanna do this?

I'm running a dual boot 867 with PT 6.4. No issues. Very stable. I thought I'd be using OS X occasionally, but as it turns out, I hardly ever use 9 anymore. No... I never use 9 anymore. OS 9 feels sort of antiquated now. I don't have as many plugins, but I'm slowly getting my weight up.

I need to run both for thier repspective strengths:

PT 5.2 running in 9 is hot, cus I have thousands of dollars worth of plugins.
Sometimes I use effects while I'm tracking and composing, but I do alot of processing and compression in the final mix, and I got alot of high end plugz.

PT 6 running in X is also the move, because, while I'm not going to buy all new pluginz for 6, I will definately benefit from tracking and composing with 6, cus of the file transfer enhancements, and especially the rewire protocall with reason. Also the beat grid swing templates are sick. I could make midi maps with the mpc, duplicating the swing in PT, then track complex synth stuff in PT.

So...I can track my synths and samplers with 6 in X, add more ish with reason, etc. then switch over to 9, open the files, and mix it down wth all the goods.

Digidesign has told me that, as long as the OSs are on separate partitions, I should be safe and sanctioned to run two separate versions of protools,
one at a time, of course. But I wanna hear from someone doing it, to get
some real info any quirks that might arise, or ish I should watch out for...

oh. I see. Then it makes sense to use the strangths of bothe versions. But can yo unot upgrade your plugs and move entirely to X. My prediction is that you will love it and find it a bit of a pain to go back to 9 to finish your mixes.

PTLE 6.4 is nice. I also switch back and forth from OS9 to OSX using PTLE, but the switching is drving me crazy. Something about having to restart couple times in OS9 to get everything setup right has me salty.

But, I feel ya on the money to upgrade a chunk of plug-ins. That's all the reason to endure the restarts in OS9 to get it right.

I do this, works fine, although I'm on Jaguar not Panther PT 6.2.1 but I know guys who do it with no problems, you should be fine but do have your drive partitioned, peace

I mean, I also own a dual pross G4 but since it's impossible to have free plugs 4 pt le 6, I use pt 5 with os9....Indeed CPU power is mostly interesting as far as plug-ins are concerned...

i DON'T THINK THAT'S POSSIBLE UNLESS YOU USE MAC CLASSIC. tHIS MEANS THAT YOU RUN PROTOOLS OS9 ON THE CLASSIC PLATFORM (WHICH RUNS ON OSX), IT'S VERY STABLE. THEN JUST HAVE PROTOOLS
6 RUNNING ON OSX AT THE SAME TIME. pARTITION THE HARD DRIVE AND HAVE A PARTITION EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE AUDIO TO SWITCH BETWEEN THE TWO.... THIS MAY WOORK.

re. plugs for osx, doesn't anyone use the VST to RTAS wrapper from FXpansion? I use their VST to Audio Unit in Logic and it's works a breeze.

You can't use any version of PTLE in Classic.
You can only use OSX versions of PTLE in OSX.

And yeah. That VST -RTAS jawn is sweet.

Oh, dude with the VST Wrapper...what is that? Can you use VST plugs in
Native or direct X environment? ProTools does not run VST, but maybe this wrapper changes that. I guess you mean you run logic on X w/ your old plugins thru the wrapper.

You can also use VSTIs with Pro Tools via Ugly VSt or VST Shell. Both freebies. Check them out at www.osxaudio.com.
