Autochop

I've been looking around for a new software to help chop my samples, but really I'm looking for the autochop feature. Something that'll just give me 12 even slices. Someone told me the mpc has that feature but i cant find it on my 500. Is it just a feature on the 1000 or 2000XL?

I've never unerstood why 12-even slices is useful. It just seems like it wouldn't work with most samples?

Is auto-chop ever defined as chopping at the natural points in order to isolate sounds, similar to how Recycle works?

well the only reason i would see it useful is with quick solos. sometimes i love a quick piano solo where notes change quickly. and i would just slice the section evenly on the mpc. so i was just wondering if I could to that through software. Otherwise autochop would be dumb as hell to me.

Does anyone know if MPC500 has a CHOP function at all, i mean can we chop a sample at all, and if yes please let me know , where in manual or how !!!

No chop functions other than MODE TRIM. From there you can set start/end points using numeric values in samples, then use the EXTRACT or DISCARD functions to either save the selection to a new file, or trim the outside regions.

Please help me a bit to get this straight
let's say i record a drum loop which is one measure and wanna break it into 8 pieces and then reuse it again , what do you recommend ?

If you need exact splitting at the bars, you need to do some calculations. Otherwise, set start/end, extract, repeat. There are already threads that talk about the various methods.

There are no chop functions so you'll want to buy a MPC1000/2500/5000, load it on there, chop, then put it back on CF for mobile use on the 500. It's crippled for business reasons, not technical.

To get around this you can either do it the long way in the box, carry a pocket PC to use for chopping .wav files, or do it on your desktop ahead of time and save files to your CF.

There is no autochop for the 500.

You can use almost any software though( recylcle, audacity,etc).

pretty sure most mpc 500 users, like myself, never chop or trim inside of the 500. we chop the sample inside sound forge/recycle/audacity. then copy and paste to the 500.

Auto Chopping to 12 pads would make since in 3/4 timing.

I'm using Slicex to chop my samples. Once you chop you can save each piece as a wav file and then add to the CF of the 500.

still do 16 chops, remember the 500 has other banks for sounds.

I got my MPC500, took a quick look through the manual to work out saving, how the CF card worked, etc and then just started making hack beats. it's only over time that i've learnt different workflow methods from watching youtube clips and picking up hints from posts like this one.

am i correct in saying that chopping a sample into 4 equal parts, makes it easier to record perfectly into a sequence (using timing correct) and then easier to use timestretch, etc?
