gettin sick of aksys...

the 4k is best machine ever

The only other mpc I ever tried has been the 2500.. my buddy took his 4k back saying it was too complex and confusing.. bought a 2500 and now that he is seein I know my way around the 4k quite well he wants his back, lol..

wow still same problems i wudda thought by now they wud've fixd this or a new os. Cheapskates..... I have this problem every day every hr every 10 mins. used to happen even worse with my wavlabs, but i figured something out, when i had wav labs open by its self it crashed even more, but when i double clickd on a wave and had ak.sys open up wav labs no crashing at all except for the "mpc seems unpluged error" I have a feeling it may be a sleep function on the usb, if there is no activity on that specific usb port it may crash the usb, will look into if its poss to set the portto not sleep.

Just looked @ my usb settings in device manage and I have 4 usb ports and one enhanced ports (mini-port)
Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller 27C8, 27C9, 27CA, 27CB, 27CB Ehanced), then each of these have an associated USB Root Hub, I found the one associated with my MPC (look under, Power Tab, shud say Akai MPC 4000 MPC) but then under power management , it had "allow computer to turn this device off to save power", so I uncheckd this. Will let u no results.

NOTE to SELF: If this fukn works im gonna kick myself 10 times cuz I already researched this 3 years ago and remember specifically turning it off and making sure in regedit (if I remember correctly) it doesnt turn this feature on up on startup. This problem has created countless days of frustration and almost cause the mpc to go flying outta my fukn 3 story studio. If this works Im gonna feel like a fukn idiot!!!!!!

FUkn didnt work!!!!!! same shit. still shows up as a Z8. Notice that this port takes 20 % bandwidth as opposed to the other 3 only takn 10%.

I forgot that u need to reboot after a dev. manager change, so i did and it actually seems to not crash, will wait a few days b4 kicking myself 10 times. Any others tried this?

Oyeah, I remember back in 2001-2002. Photo like these, gave every owner with a older model mpc a hard-on for the mpc4000. Damn so long ago.

if you don't want to use akSys, use a USB memory stick, jumpdrive, whatever you want to call it. They get the job done.

I've been doing the exact same thing for a while! Everyone has their phone on them, so it just makes sense to use it as a storage device. They just need retractable usb cables built in!

Those of you making fun of this post didn't read it.

Ak.sys isn't necessary for simple loading and saving of projects to and from memory, but it IS if you want to copy anything DIRECTLY FROM HDD. This would apply to any time you want to copy/backup folders from one storage device to another. You would have to load everything into memory and save back down, recreating every folder (which would take forever).

I have the most problems from ak.sys with really long file names. I remember something around 56 characters causing a crash. It also does not like USB hubs.

I just noted this in another thread, but it is possible to get ak.sys working in a non-compatible OS by using virtual machine software. Unlikely it would make it less buggy though, haha.

Never noticed this before... but that press released photo has a SCREEN SHOT image of ak.sys opened up in INTERNET EXPLORER!!!!!!!! That means it probably wasn't even working at the time, you can clearly see the application is not loaded. Gotta love the ak.sys logo on the monitor bezel, too.
