about the mpc 1000

hey,

got the money. want a mpc. my question is, people reporting bugs and all, is the mpc 1000 really worth buying? pretty simple really, does it get the work done or are the bugs making it so bad that you can't work with it... like suddenly you lose all of your work and have to start from skratch etc.

should i get it? i don't really have the money for an 2000xl and i certainly don't have the dough to max it out with the outputs. seems like where im at, the 2nd hand market is almost none...

I'm kind of the same atm. I was thinking about getting the 1000, did alot of reading on it and shit, but I've decided to wait a bit longer and save the cash to get a 2000xl, new or used, I' haven't decided yet. But I'll end up buying new if i don't see a good deal on one used.

Another thing, you might get a few people replying to you here, and i know this sort of shit is what this forum is here for, but if you haven't already, you should search the archives and shit... dig up mad knowledge.

when i had my 1000, for the first 4 o.s's, i never had one problem. but thats just me. I used just about every function.

and check ebay, you will be able to find 2000xls on there.

ebay is not an option. (customs, plus the shipping is expensive). that option would even exceed the price of a new 2000xl.


bottom line is, i can live with a few bugs, but can i get some work done with it? should i get one?

yeah, you can get work done with it.

You should go check out the mpc1k forum here, so you can read up on what people have problems with and all that kind of stuff.

Aiight im gonna help you out because i had the same problem.
First off let me tell you that i ACTUALLY owned BOTH the MPC1000 and the MPC2000XL. So i know from experience and am not just talking out of my ass. The mpc 1000 is ok. Its not a bad machine. But with my mpc the bugs were out of control. To the point that it slowed my work flow and frustrated me from making beats. I returned it twice and got brand new mpc1000's but all three of them had bugs. From weird popping sounds, to distrotion to unresponsive pads. Also i perosonally felt that the sound of the mpc1000 was a little to plastic. Anyway i finally got fed up ad returned my mpc for the 4th time. I got another new factory sealed MPC1000 and instead of testing it out i just sold it for close to the original price. I then went and bought my current MPC the MPC2000XL. And in my opinion it is better in ALMOST every aspect. It feels better, and is much higher quality. The pads feel better and are bigger. Also since ive had i have not had any problems. The sampling is tight and precise and i even think it sounds better. I mean yeah the 1000 has a few great features that the MPC2000 lacks like USB and the small laptop size...but overall i just think the 2000xl is better. But then again ive heard of users that have a 1000 that bang out hot beats(hotter than some cats who own 2000xls or even 4000's) and have not had a single problem with ther mpc. Basically you get what you pay for. The 2000XL is almost $500 more then the 1k. So If you want a cheaper way to learn get the 1000 and then later upgrade. But if you can wait i recoomend saving up and getting the 2000xl.

well, i ordered the mpc1k. well see how it goes. i will be using it with protools LE plus a few other equipement. think i'll be hanging around here from now on.

dutch said it right! i have a 1000 and the only bug ive experienced is the rare sample drop out. happens rarely though. i def put my mpc to work maybe i'm one of the few blessed ones. it is messed up though that peeps are experiencing trouble with the 1000. akai needs to get a move on! i understand that its cheaper than the xl but $hiiit, $900 is no chump change

the mpc 1k is def worth it id say, i havent had trouble with the bugs, zoning is kinda gay nto to have but i mean im fine withotu it and its nto liek it handicaps you but itd be nice to have but that shouldnt totally change your decision cuz the 2kxl makes you deal with the zip drive masacare and they are ok on prices on ebay. but id say 1k is worth it

Just my 2-cents: I've had mine for about 2 and a half weeks now, and I really like it! Have not had any bug related problems. I do have a couple of pads that are not as responsive as the others, but I can live with it, and someone in a thread in the 1k forum said that they get better over time--with use.

There's really a lot of features for the price. My only complaint is that you can't directly move an event time in step edit mode--you have to use a "copy and paste" procedure. A bit labor intensive if you have a lot of notes to move, but hopefully Akai will add direct entry in a future OS. This may not be an issue for some people, though...

The unit is very well built, although the data wheel seems a bit "fragile." But it is a "featherlight" touch, and I guess no one has had a problem, so I'm not worrying about it! The Q sliders don't feel that great, but they do the job, and so far I haven't used them much anyway!

I can still return it to the retailer, so I'm really putting it through it's paces to make sure it's a keeper! So far, overall I'm happy.

BTW, be sure to download all the kits off Akai's site--there's some useful stuff (at least IMO), that will keep me busy for months!
