? I am crossed b/wn a JV2080 and a Motif Rack.

Which one would you buy and why? What are the Pros and Cons of each?

i was in this same position 2 months ago. from my research here and other sites i went with the motif rack hands down! everyone seemed to be in awe of the motif's more realistic sounds. i def see why. persoanlly i'm loving mine. motif rack, MPC and ill samples is a killer combo. but u will want to test them out at GC or something at least to see for urself

i'd say the roland xv-5050 or xv-2020 with some expansion cards

id say what are you looking for. if you doing more mellow R&B sounding stuff, go for the motif, the triton is just plain played imo, and if you really looking for that current sound or something to compliment your samples go for a VA synth like the ION, Nord. Then for your bread and butter sounds go for the older Korg Trintiy or Roland JV2080, you could get say a used ION and a used JV2080 for the price of a Motif....plus youd be more versatile.

I am feeling you on that comment about the Triton, everybody and their granddaddy has one and is using the sounds. So the Motif is more R&B?? Vakseen, do you feel like this too? I appreciate all your comments!!

Motif, more realistic sounding instruments, expandability options alone make it the right choice

Nope, but I do want an instrument that would allow me to be flexible. And all around instrument, so to speak.

i couldnt say "just r&b". motif has some sick bread n butter sounds period. i, myself, make FIRE hip hop and r&b with it. i havent messed with the roland though. im loving the motif!

That's what I keep hearing, so that's what I will do. I haven't heard anyone say anthing about the JV yet, other than MIDI problems etc. So I will get a MO then. Thanks all.

I got the Fantom XR.

I should have sent it back before the 45 days expired.

Now I have to sell it so I can go get the Motif ES.

The XR is really easy to operate and it allows you to process samples.

But I really don't need it to process samples since the 4000 effects are working now and I have a PC with a million effects.

To put it bluntly the sounds on the Fantom are just not inspiring.

Out of all the samples included. only 2 of them inspired me to make music as soon as I pushed the Key.

Comparing the sounds to my mo Phatt i was definitely dissapointed.

If you're just looking for sounds go Motif.

The Fantom does strings and Pianos very well.

The drums are Ok.

I've been thorugh the Triton and The Fantom.

I'll take my Mo Phatt over both of them for original sounds. Espescially Guitars.

JVs are hot. Ive had em all a triton rack, motif rack and still have a little JV880. I think if your going the synth route, u need to mix your sound sources a bit for some flavor. Def Motif over Triton (unless u pick one up with an expansion board), a MicroKorg for some analog sounds (necessary) and a JV880 which go for like $90. Midi is easy on em.
