Hi,
I just wondered - is the existence of jj sequencer realy so essential that jj stoped developig of jj os and is aiming only to jj sequencer? I have a feeling that from the time jj started to develop the sequencer, the support of paid jjos xl is getting worse and worse. Why? Does the jj sequencer bring something revolutionary in comparison with the mpc? Should I sell my mpc and download jj sequencer or use my mpc as an midi controller? It just another software and many people using mpc's are using it because they like hardware... To be honest (do not take it bad) but have you ever asked "who will use it?" or "does somebody need it" seems like the answer is "nobody" and "no" because there are tons of another profesional sequencers and sw samplers and the jj os is realy obsolete.. :-( JJ please do not ignore jjos - it the right way, its the thing we are going you to pay for and its the thing we need and want to use... The last release of the jjos xl (1.17) was released after nearly 2 months and is fixing only one minor bug?? Have you read the thread with bug reports?-there are at least two new replays per day reporting real bug waiting to be fixed... JJ, should we even expect something new or something fixed in the jj os or does this project finished for you?!?!?
What is your opinion?

Thanks

My impression was that JJ Sequencer opens up MPC JJ OS projects in Windows. I can imagine some uses for that, mostly just if a project grew too large for the MPC, or to be able to open old projects in 20 years when MPCs are completely gone and there's no spare parts.

Really though, it seems like JJ realized that the MPC is a dying approach, and is trying to stay relevant. My prediction is it will be a failed attempt if all JJ Sequencer does is standard stuff. Lots of MPC users don't want to use a PC, and there are already mature sequencers available.

Yes, JJ OS seems to be unsupported. I emailed asking that when it is officially abandoned that the source code be released.

from my stand point.. being someone that is forced to wait for the time being to purchase osxl (since my mpc has a hardware issue that once repaired could force me to have to purchase a second password) I can honestly say that while JJosxl has a sh!t ton of features that I am DYING to have.. the idea of paying 113 bucks with little to no continued support does suck.

On the other hand.. If JJ is ANYTHING at all like me or most creative people, then maybe it has more to do with the fact that he has a very creative, intelligent mind and is looking for the next challenge for himself, regardless of whether it pleases US or not. I know personally when I am doing something that I have a passion for that I enjoy or that or entertains me, once I master it, or have done it a while, it becomes routine, boring, and really....like WORK.

JJos has achieved pretty epic proportions given its features over the Akai Os's and its present following/user base.
But that comes with a lot of added responsibility given the amount of password purchases that have been made. Maybe it feels like work to him now, and he is bored with it, despite the fact that he kind of has a moral responsibility to continue to offer bug fixes, patches and updates after the amount of money ppl have spent with him on the OS. But Im willing to bet that when he started doing this, it was to help himself by making the mpc easier to use and full of features it was capable of doing but missing.. Rather than him thinking.. "i should make a new os and sell it"
More than likely that came later after he realized his success. of course I could be wrong.

So yeah, everyone has spent lots of money with him, But that doesn't mean he HAS TO or even WILL continue to update it. And Im not saying that its right for him to treat the situation that way.. but its definitely a possibility.
Its human nature to want to master something, and move on to something new. The downside here is whether his passion for creating SW that helps us make more effective use of our mpc's s something that he is still interested in doing.
And if not him.. then WHO ELSE? I mean JJ cant be the ONLY person in the world with the capacity to create an aftermarket OS for MPC's now that it has been demonstrated that it is not only possible, but also lucrative.

So it will certainly be interesting to see where we go from here. But given that JJ is more than likely completely aware of all the other professional grade sequencers on the market, and how much more competitive an area that will be for him, wouldn't it be safe to say that he is doing it because he likes and wants to? rather that merely for us, to sell it?
ya know?

Why is there so much speculation about JJ and the OS? Whenever I email there's usually a reply quickly after. Hasn't anyone tried to talk to learn more about the situation? Look how fast that bug was fixed the other day. What if people just aren't communicating in a productive way? Did you email your bug? Did you provide step-by-step how to reproduce it along with files to easily load? Did you try to make it painless for JJ, along with positive motivating words?

As opposed to the idea of not paying the $113, and having a far inferior machine with little to no continued support?

I used JJ's bug reporting form and gave him my money, what more does he need?

Don't know, but somehow someone got a bug fixed in a day. That seems to indicate we're doing it wrong.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but from the quick look at the sequencer I took it seems we should be jumping with joy.

I have no experience with the JJOS, since I'm on a 2000XL, so I cannot speak about bug fixes and what not.
However I did take a look at the JJ Sequencer manual which states the following:

The file which can be read

MID, WAV, PGM, PRJ, SEQ, ALL(ALL_SEQS&SONG file

Now that part should make everyone giddy... Does it read and render the files like the Akai machine would? If so then where is the damn export button! That would mean that somewhere down the line people could say goodbye to tracking out beats and use the sequencer to render them. (Unless you are keen on the particular sound convertor sound your machine makes).

No?

NAH u missed wut I was saying..
I have EVERY intention on purchasing JJOSXL, even if there was NO further support to come and I was paying for it based on ONLY the features it currently offers. But if I buy it NOW, and then my 2500 gets repaired (with a new cpu board) my product id will change, and will have to buy a password TWICE for the same mpc.

when you quoted me you conveniently left out...

etc etc etc

yeah it would suck to not have any further support. that doesnt mean Im not gonna buy it. I would have already gotten it if not for the issue with my mpc.
