Choppin it up

this is crazy every post now is bout a 303. I would tell dude just to get a mpc2kxl and a turntable and a mixer. Theres no real need for both. Yeah the effects are sick, and all that jazz, but dude should just get the mpc for now and learn on that. why would he need two units to cut samples with? This 303 hype is crazy. I aint a hater, but these cats hear bout it and think they need it. When the mpc has a sampler, and a sequencer. DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the 303 is cool but u dont need it. Get a outboard effects unit if ur stressin it that hard. Theres a lot of biters here man. Everyone is just bitin eachover. Look into the s950 and the s2000's. Or get a synth like the ms2000r or a sound module. No need to spend 300 bills on something that the mpc can shit on 3 diff ways. the only thing that u would need it for is effects.

what i really should of asked is it easy to chop up samples on the mpc and if so i can jus cop a sound module and a yamaha a3000 or a4000 and that would be my dedicated sampler with all its effects and what not is dat a kool setup?

Binger... I ain't tryin to start an argument... And I agree this dude would be fine with just the MPC... But have you ever owned a 303 or 505 and really sat down and used it as your only drum machine for a year... Cause I have...

Theres something about it that is just nice... It's simple and straight forward... The FX are really nice... And chopping is easier than on a PC Wave Editor like Audition or SoundForge... And as many people have said before on this site... It just has a grittiness to it... The Timestretch isn't perfect, but that's sorta the charm of it... It time stretchs a little choppy, but it actually makes the break or sample sound more interesting...

I understand that your sayin not to do it just because it's the rage now and a lot of other people are doin it... But at the same time don't not do it just because everyone else is doin it... Thats bein different for the sake of bein different...

I think this dude should try it out for himself if he's got a boy who has one and see if it suits him... Or try one out at a local msuic store and see if he likes its sound...

its very easy to chop up sounds on the mpc. i think it would be overkill to have the 2 together cause the mpc has a chop function and a sampler. I think for what ur tryin to do the mpc alone or the mpc and a dedicated sampler would be your best combo. Yo that yamaha a3000 is gangsta. Ive never seen that thing before. I would cop one of thouse.


matt, i aint hatin on the 303 or 505 they cool pieces, and ur entitled to your opinions, in my eyes that thing is not really worth it if u got a mpc allready. If u need a travel piece or something to work on then yo thats fine whatever floats your boat. I never had a 303 but have used em in guitar center. I started out with a yamaha s200 sampler and that joint was cool, but it was a pain in the ass. I bought it over the 303. then i copped an es1 which was real tight, then i got a mpc bout a yr later. But if dude is getting an mpc then i would just say for him to just learn on that thing and expand later with a more powerful sampler. For what hes askin about the mpc can do that great.

Definitely... The MPC alone would be fine... Choppin on the MPC took me a little while to get use to at first because I was choppin on the 505 and it was mad easy... The screen on the MPC is smaller and doesn't give you as good a view to Chop from... Thats one thing that 505 was great for... I learned my MPC a lot better since then and I have no problems choppin on it.... I still say the 505 or 303 and MPC is a nice hook up.... But the truth is there are better set-ups... If this dude got an MPC and an S950 for some extra grit that'd be nice too... Or just a sound module if your doin original beats... It's all about findin what fits your needs...

yeah but this guy is at a stage where he has niether so to me it makes sense to buy the mpc...then if he needs anything more he can then decide whats best rather than buying two very similar machines....

This is what bugs me about underground music. They all spew the same garbage about trying to be "real" and "authentic" when everysingle necro or little brother tracks sounds like some gritty tracks from RZA circa 1994.

I like all music(trust me, alll) but isn't that sort of hypocritical to get a piece of machine just because madlib or rjd2 uses it?

You got it twisted tdot.. Evryone on this site thinks I'm sayin this dude should get the 303 or 505 cause Madlib rocks the 303... That's not the case... I rocked the 505 long before I heard Madlib even rocked the 303... ANd I'm not even sayin this kid should definitely get it... I said he should decide for himself... I'm just tellin him what are the good features of it so he knows what to expect from it... Simple as that...

yahh, but Im speaking in general. Underground music is just as formulaic as mainstream.

It can be at times... I'm the same way with the Underground that I am about Mainstream... If it's good music it's good music... Give it any label you want... A good Country song is a good Country song... People always ask me what type of music I listen to... I always tell them: Good Music...

Thanks u guys im sort of leaning to the yamaha a5000 for the effectsand what not and the filters and it can sample at lower bitrate and get those gritty drums like primo plus it has a loop remix thatcan chop samples up like recyle
