so is JJ os THAT useful ?

hello

just got my MPC 1000 (was a 2000xl user a few years ago)

i was wondering if the JJ OS 1 that everybody is raving about is that useful

more features, more features and more features ... but do i really need them ? will i be as efficient with all these added parameters & options ?

i was wondering : what are the things that you find the most useful in JJ OS, that you wouldn't live without ?

Everyone is different. The first thing I did when I got my 2500 was go through the Akai OS, looking at all the screens. Then I loaded JJ OS in order from least to highest main version number. It was obvious to me why XL was for me, and Akai OS had to go. Very obvious. If you try doing this, and it isn't obvious, maybe you don't need JJ OS.

For me it was just everything. Audio tracks, chords, arps, more options, better looking file manager, instrument programs, shortcuts, footswitch, pad sensitivity, etc. etc. It's just totally different. The Akai OS is very basic, but JJ OS has lots of advanced settings to tweak. Although, it's still not enough to me. There are oddities, and I want more.

But Akai OS also might still have the save bug, that right there is reason enough to switch. Try for yourself, for some people Akai OS will be better because it has less to deal with if you don't care about all the extra functions.

This may sound crazy, but the only thing I couldn't live without--

Adjusting sample start/end points while the sequence is playing. JJ yes, Akai no.

one of my fave additions is IMMEDIATELY PLAY function.

this function , in the next sequence pad view, let you jump from one seq to another without havin to wait the end of the sequence BUT (unlike the SUDDEN function) it does it quantized! so, continuous play as in ableton live with legato mode on!
it means :
im in seq 1 , i go to the next seq page, hit pad 2 when seq 1 is at 02.03.10 --> it jumps immediately to seq 2 at 02.03.11 and goes on fluidly!

i always wanted that even on my old love, the mpc 4000. its pure holy grail in live sessions!

plus i love the improved usability of the q-links, the new ADSR, inst programs and tons of other stuff!(grid edit for all kind of tracks anyone? audio tracks? arpeggiators? i love to use them arps on drumbeats!!)

Every JJ OS version is supremely better than the Akai OS. Ver. 1 OS is still a beast in it's own right.

i pity the fool that still uses the akai os.

with the JJ OS, it's not just about the extra features, it's the improved interface & workflow.

Workflow... OS-XL. No more "MODE... PROGRAM", "MODE... TRIM". Save your most used screens to the number pad, and hit the number. Way faster, can switch between load, trim, save, whatever, real fast because each is only 1 key.

Or how about the ALL in the program editor? Akai OS doesn't have that right? If you have lots of samples assigned and want to turn them all from one shot to note on, hit shift + ALL with that field selected and hit your + key.

The improved workflow is a feature in itself.

JJ makes features you will use.

JJoS saved me from selling my MPC.
I downgraded from OS2XL to OS2 for the xox-style step sequencer, but other features I use a lot are the separate track mixer (mode+4) instead of the program mixer. Plus chopping samples is a breeze on JJos.

i'm using JJ OS 3.08 (free)

these audio tracks are cool, i'm recording my guitar, but why is there a gap before the audio starts playing ? first two tracks went fine, third one is totally out of sync.
is there a work-around ?

The Audio Tracks are not synced!

You have to manually trim the recorded file. I'm not done investigating this, I want a better explanation as to why they can't get perfect recordings. Audio Tracks would be an amazing feature, if they were perfectly synced.

couldn't find a word about it on the official website ... not very professional
