So i bit the bullet! Proud owner of an MPC1000

I got an MPC1000 today. and damn im happy with myself for picking this beast up. i also got a decent deal, it was 100,000 yen total, WITH 128 mb upgrade installed. sweet. about 1,000 USD. problem is, they told me if i wanted an english manual, i would have to wait 3 months.. so im here to ask you guys a few questions, and while i wait im going to go off and research like crazy.

1. how would i go about getting my yamaha MO6 sounds to work with my MPC? would i need a mixer? or could i somehow use the sampling feature of the MPC and sample sounds onto my pads?

2. what cables would i need to hook this baby up to some audio sources? i want to begin loading it with sounds but have no tables, or mixer. i wanted to just sample MP3s off my computer until i can save up for a Table, how would i go about this?

3. as far as samples go, would i need to get them all cleared if i wanted to sell them? this is my first time experimenting with samples and i plan to sell beats online soon but is it REALLY necessary for someone like me to clear songs?

anyway im going to search for an online version of the manual, and im going to look up some videos on youtube etc. id appreciate if anyone could help me out though, i know these questions have probably answered at some point and im sorry if they have obvious answers. im real stoked about this, i cant wait to get my head around this little machine. thanks for reading MPC gurus

PS. could someone recommend a good (affordable) turntable that would be used for sampling purposes? thank you

the answer to Q1 is YES. plug the audio outs of the Mo6 to the Ins of the mpc and sample away.
And in addition some of the features of the JJOS that I linked above will help to streamline this process.

Q2.. you will need regular old Dual 1/4 to Dual 1/4 unbalanced(TS) or balanced(TRS) cables to connect the MO6 to the MPC, and for the laptop you will need a cable that has a male 1/8th STEREO phone plug(usually) to two 1/4 1/4 unbalanced TS Phone Plugs. if your unsure what some of that means GOOGLE IT!! lol
oh and also, I must say that I am NOT a fan of sampling MP3's unless the quality is GREAT and they have a HIGH bit rate. Im not going to go into great details since your new to this.. but basically if you sample garbage quality, and then make a beat, and then compress that into an mp3? no good.. youll end up with a artifacts in your track from the sample(s) being compressed repeatedly.

as for Q3.. youll need to search around and read up on that.. If your slick about the samples you use, then you might never have to clear sh!t.. If you blatantly STEAL a piece from a song like some ppl do, then yeah you could get sued.. but the chances of your song blowing up are just as good as you getting sued.. no offense.. difficult not impossible tho.

and lastly, yes you should be looking at as many youtube vids as you can stomach, and pay attention to the details. search and read as much as you can. Search this forum for answers before you post questions too.
Usually the answers are right here, and its MUCH faster to "search and find" than to "Post and wait"

congratulations. what operating system are you using? AKIA or JJOS? When you turn on the MPC, look at the splash screen -- it'll tell you what OS you have.
upgrade to JJOS ASAP.
