Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

What up, all?

Just wondering if anyone has ever seen an internal compact flash reader for the MPC 2000xl? I bought one that fits in a 3.5" bay, so it fit, but I think it needs 12v as WELL as the 5v the MPC's (now modified) floppy power cable provides. Alternately, does anyone know of a 12v power source inside the 2000xl? I meant to poke around a little more in the power supply section for a 12v lead, but got a little....ummm....cloudy and forgot. Right now I have an internal zip in it, and THAT runs fine, so I would assume the CF reader would work if I could feed it 12v, 5v, and ground lines.....any ideas?

Peace,
MANiK

"but I think it needs 12v as WELL "

That would be a first. What model is it?

Thanks a lot, man....I found it. I'm just thinking something solid-state would be better for live gig use (and wouldn't have the potential to develop the click of death problem...

It seems to basically be unbranded OEM ish....it's at:

http://shop.menlomart.com/noname.html

I tired it on the MPC and tried playing with reversing the cable and checking the voltage with a multimeter and everything, and it would NOT work. I then tried it in my friend's PC, and it reads cards just fine (even a card that no other CF reader would touch...). I figured maybe it either needed the 12v or was just not ATAPI compliant. Based on all the different platforms listed as suppported, though, I think it's a regular ATAPI device. In Win2000, it was recognized and worked fine as a "removable disk" without loading any other drivers. Hard to say....I may look into that PC card reader on MPC2000xl.com though...

In speaking with Akai on the subject, they said they would include a CF Card reader in the newer models of the 2000XL's. Because of the hand-off for distribution (now Numark), this will be a bit delayed (expected in October?). I am anticipating a cf card kit or upgradeability. Any more info on the subject would be good...

A yo can you post that email that says this because Im thinking that it will just be a drive update not a new model I hope its more than a drive update, usb and 256mb ram would be nice :D

Bmorerepa: As far as I know, it's just the drive but I could be mistaken. I spoke with Akai verbally but haven't gotten an e-mail back. USB would be tight... I've had a hell of a time gettin a clear answer from the guys over there though.
