Can the 2000xl re-sample to 25000hz?

I just saw a youtube video with DJ Quik where he goes over different equipment. To make a long story short, he says the sp1200 samples at 12bit/25K. I'm a big fan of that sound (but I don't want to buy one if I don't have to), so I went to the re-sampling page on my 2000xl and tried changing the dimensions to read the same as an sp1200. I tried different things, but got impatient with it (I couldn't wait long to hear the results). Finally, I just put the bit depth at 16bit and quality low, but leaving the hz at 25k. When I pressed "Open Window" on the new sound, under the Program->Drum page, it still read 41000k. Could it be a program memory problem or is it false advertisement? I did install more memory into it, total of 32Megabytes, so I don't think that's the problem. I also heard DJ Quik mention the MPC couldn't do this, is he right?

resampling won't give you that "SP sound" you're after, only a real SP can do that!

You are correct about how it samples, but the SP but gets its sound from its hardware (SSM2044 filter).

On your 2000XL, are you using the resample function to change the frequency and bit rate? It's on page 97 in the manual...

yeah I'm using the resample function. I've already tried changing the frequency, but it looks like it didn't work. When I scrolled over the new audio file, it read 41K.

I'm really just experimenting for now, so it's not crucial that I get the exact sp1200 sound. Does anyone have a preference for the settings in the resample page when dealing with drums or samples? I'm trying to do some dope layering... mold the sound and what not.

1. The Samplerate is not 25000Hz but 26040
2. SSM 2044 Filter ICs are available at ebay and shematics of a DIY filterboard are on the net too. So that should not be a problem.

I think the sound of the SP is a result of the A/D D/A converter stage inside the SP. I'm dont know much bout whats really goin on but there are different types of coverters

I guess this plays a big role. I dont know what the "sample skipping technology" mentioned by fruityproduce means but it doesnt sound wrong to me

And yes there is not really a way to emulate the e-mu

The resampling function on the 2000xl is probably the most waste of time feature ever added to a drum machine, it's way too slow. If you use it, trim your samples as much as possible, and I personally wouldn't use it on any sample larger than a small kick drum. You'll grow old waiting on the XL to process a half second sample, and have great grand-kids on anything bigger.
If you can get the XL to sound right (applying the right settings/frequency's) the results are not too bad, but you'll grow tired of any trial and error. I think the cheapest (and fastest) way to get the SP-1200 sound is to buy an Emax-1 or an SP-12. I've had both... actually liked the lo-fi effect in the SP-303/404 but that's my personal opinion.
