MPC 1000 - Not recognizing HD

So i just got a used mpc1000 this weekend. its my first time using this glorious device. it came with a 20g hard drive installed. The first nite i broke it out i was able to see the HD in the load screen and successfully transferred some wavs from my pc. well apparently while digging through menus i did something (i think?!?) and now the mpc no longer sees the hard drive. My only options on the LOAD menu are my CF and the internal memory. I've started to do a little research but can't find anything i would need to do on the device itself. i'm hoping theres some uber known fix for this kind of thing. i'm going to open it up tonite if i can't find a more civilized solution. any advice would be great thx.

just open it up and see if the ribbon came loose. That or the HD is dead.

Yeah laptop HD's aren't always the most reliable. Maybe it also became corrupt and needs a reformatting, but if it's completely unrecognized by the MPC, take it out and check if it's ok, and try reinstalling it. 20gb 2.5" IDE harddrives aren't expensive anyway so a replacement shouldn't hurt the wallet!
