The screws are the only thing that hold it in place -- double check to make sure you have taken off all the screws (there are several in the middle of the board).
Also, make sure the jog wheel isn't obstructing removal. You may need to pull the wheel off.
It is possible that if you have a used MPC, the previous owner may have glued the buttons to the case. Of something may have been spilled on the MPC and it's crusted up.
If so, look at the underside of the circuit board -- and you will see tabs where the buttons are attached to the board. Carefully disengage the tabs which will remove the buttons from the PCB -- if the PCB comes loose and the buttons stay attached to the case you will know the culprit.
