ok this is going no where.. and there is no need to get personal. its the internet.

Jamon and Jesse have great points. You raised yours, and they agree to disagree, as do I.
Can we get over that now?

Moving on.. the general consensus here is that everyone but you feels that we (as JJOS users) would appreciate more support for JJOS, rather than time we feel is wasted on JJSEQ. Its really beating a dead horse.

The GUI is prehistoric looking, and the functionality doesn't offer anything that we do not already have access to, at least in some way or another in several other established software titles. I can appreciate the fact that from maybe a creative position, JJ is enjoying the development of JJSEQ(and got bored w/ JJOS), but in reality it offers no real advantage to anything we have at our disposal already. I think I can speak for almost all of us when I say that we feel his efforts would be better spent continuing to develop and master the JJOS. There is actually an existing NEED for that. Now when you consider the money that users have spent on the OS and new versions, etc.. JJ really does have a moral responsibility to continue to support the OS. ESPECIALLY if he is attempting to develop a Sequencer that is intended to be purchased "for use with JJOS".
This could easily be done like Jesse has mentioned, with a legible website for starters, as well as continued updates, new features and bug fixes.

In addition... not EVERYONE wants to produce and work "in the box" or can afford to continually purchase and try new software. That is the Niche that the MPC fills. And The JJOS allows it to do its intended job much better.
At ANY point a user of an MPC with JJOS could decide to purchase a DAW and work ITB and have a plethora of SW apps to choose from. I for one (even acknowledging that JJSEQ is meant to be an extension of the mpc) do not feel that the features gained in JJSEQ will be more powerful or useful than that of other established SW apps available already. Plus it forces me to work/produce in the box again to gain those features. Not to mention the GUI.. god..ew.

I think JJ opened a large can of worms honestly. He is placing himself in a domain now wit other competitors.
Before he had none and JJ actually made something that we had and STILL have a use for with JJOS.

Jamon wrote:The whole point of the MPC is that it's dedicated hardware. That's the only reason why I put up with its shortcomings. If you have to bring a PC into it then you might as well give up on the MPC and use a dedicated PC tool, because it suggests you don't understand the advantages the MPC has and a MIDI controller will do just as well for you.

In my first post I stated the good and the bad of the MPC, if you state the good and the bad; chances are we will agree. I and other producers will tell you arranging a beat on the MPC is a pain.

Why do want to continue to put up with the shortcomings of the MPC when JJ and you with your complaints are trying to get rid of them.

Jamon wrote:Anyone can program music software for a PC.

JJ is the only person I know on the internet that has the insight to program both.

Jamon wrote:They may have to learn a few things, but we all have access to the necessary pieces. We do not have access to what it takes to program MPC firmware. Only JJ and Akai. That means, JJ Sequencer could be built by any of the millions of people with PCs and free time, but instead JJ does it.

Trust me, they call him JJ for a reason. Akai lost one of their greastest assets and if people keep talking bad about JJ's work so will the MPC Fourms.

If that was the case a MPC-Software Hybrid would have beed done by now.

Jamon wrote:If JJ is doing what everyone else can do, then no one does what only JJ can do. That leaves Akai as the only one with access to the MPC OS, and they are moving to PC stuff too. That is why it is a waste of scarce resources for JJ to direct energy into PC software. Anyone can do that, and we don't want to use the PC, only the MPC.

Just because you want to continue to use the MPC's shortcoming of arranging music, should not interfere with the opportunity to make a better product.

I don't understand what part of JJ OS you want improved or are you letting your bias MPC only feelings get the best of you.

Jamon wrote:Since JJ is neglecting his special power no one else shares, the code and instruction on how to program the MPC should be made public. Then JJ can build PC software, or paint pictures, or any of the other things anyone can do, and we can get access to what he and Akai could only do. That is fine. But if JJ hoards the power, JJ should use it.

Here is an idea that has nothing to do with the improvement of the JJ OS. JJ has giving us his all, with the little resources he has. All people do is nit pick at non topical matters.

what is all this talk about shortcomings with arrangement? to some people, i bet you the MPC is better. i've used an MPC and Reason to arrange beats before. Reason is very close to what JJSEQ is trying to do, and i gotta say that there's nothing that makes Reason that much better, i think that the MPC is pretty simple when arranging a beat depending on how you go about doing it.

the bottom line here is that one should stick to what they're good at, rather than getting into something new after spending years on something already, especially if what you've spent years on has no competition and the new venture has A LOT of competition

Okay, actually... There is NO evidence that JJ EVER worked for Akai other than Speculation BASED on his knowledge of the MPC.

In actual fact.. a forum member here by the name of Stan Steez who Created the JJOS Manual for the MPC1000 Series, actually worked via email with JJ to put together the manual, and In the introduction he states how JJ got his Name from NYM another forum member, and that JJ has NO TIES to Akai.

the exact quote from the manual is
"About JJ
Well, JJ basically stands for Japanese
Jenius, and was coined by Nym1 of mpc-forums.com. Not much is known about the japanese genius who is responsible for creating the JJ OS, except that he has no ties to AKAI. Although his identity remains unknown, it's clear that his OS is, in fact, an outstanding piece of software, providing many long- awaited and unexpected features. The JJ OS finally turns your MPC 1000 into a full-blown production tool, with almost every feature of the MPC 2500 – if not more
."

It's STILL a mystery as to whether that is to be interpreted as he is "no longer connected" to Akai.. OR..
NEVER worked for them period.

Lastly.. No One is talking BAD about JJ. We LOVE what he has done so for with JJOS.. but that doesn't mean that we wont be disappointed in the abandonment of JJOS. Even then, If JJOS died today, what he accomplished with it is far superior to anything Akai would ever do.. so talk bad about him? no... Give our opinions? yes.

The dead horse that is being beat is more additions to OS Xl, and people trying to imply the software is buggy.

Do I want 4X4 sequence addition, yes. I'm not impling that the JJ sequencer is useless with out my features requests, No

Hey you have to admit it looks better than dos, also if you look at the 30 year progression of microsoft you will understand.

As for functionality, the sound quality alone should give you goose bumps. The digital to analog converters in th MPC was never as good as others.

Recording your keyboard sound performance to the mpc, then store them on your PC and if needed play the beat right from the computer is a great feature of the JJ Sequencer.

I will never lose a beat or have to turn on my keyboard to retreive a sound because it's all on my PC's hardrive.

your best comeback is "it looks better than dos?" also, how is the sound quality somehow better than any other program? this is getting ridiculous, you are starting to do more harm than good

Holmz skillet, you have stated nothing constructive, even though you call your words of wisdom constructive criticism.

So what is the problem with the JJ OS you have beef with.

amazing. i definitely didn't say anything about the JJ OS throughout all of my posts

I'm sorry for trying to explain, so I feel you must see the end result to fully understand. An a arranger and a controller are two totally different things.

and you bring up the 30 year progression of microsoft? LMFAO
so maybe in 30 years JJSEQ will look awesome! Or maybe another company will already be doing that better..
cough cough MAC cough cough

umm yeah.. if you have a hard drive or a CF card ya do that already.

This really is going NOWHERE..
GO play with the JJSEQUENCER beta. let us know how that works out..

or actually..

hmm, but taking a look at the NI Maschine I sometimes DO get a little jealous...

it really would be cool to integrate the MPC to the PC (AND Mac!) but the JJ Sequencer looks really lame, no offense Evil Sulli. Maybe instead of a whole Sequencer JJ could make a Plugin (VST/au etc.) for common DAWs, which can communicate with the mpc. So you could have the comfort of a "real" sequencer and the possibility to integrate the MPC as a controller(like in JJ sequencer).
I would buy that.

And in my opinion: I never had a single Bug in JJ OS, most of you are really just smartasses ;)
