MFC-42 & EB FX Board worth it?

Hi ive had my 2kxl for a little while now and am in the process of upgrading it, i was just wondering if the MFC-42 & EB FX Board are worth getting or are there alternatives that will do the things they do better or for cheaper, thanks.

Can't speak for the eb16 but the MFC-42 is dope & worth getting if you can find em.

If you're stuck choosing between the two -- the MFC-42 is superior to the EB-16 without question.

The EB-16 is pretty worthless IMO. If you are tracking out to software, any software will have better plug ins than this thing. If you want to use hardware, buy a $50 Lexicon which will be a whole lot better as well. I wouldn't deal with the EB-16. It sort of a nice to have if your machine came with it, just because.

I always use the EB16 on the 2KXL as a preview, to get a better picture of what the sample would sound like with the X effect in the mix. If i come up to something with a certain character even if its not better than my DP/4 or SPX900 Id keep it.
Why waste time looking for same presets to realise that the one you had on the EB16 was what you were looking for in the first place?
The bad thing with the EB16 is that you cannot have 1/4 delays... just delays in 8ths! Thats VERY bad in my opinion.
For the same money you can get an outboard effect unit with 1000ms delay time.

AS for the MFC42. I love mine! Its a perfect addition to the older MPCs.
You have high pass, low pass, band pass and notch filters with resonance. On the stereo IN/OUT you get a 2 pole and 4 pole and on the mono in you can get an 2pole 4 pole or 8 pole!!! A phasing/tremolo effect, a rough high/low EQ (I rarely use it) and a distorter (never use it either).

You can either sample your sounds once using low pass and then using highpass to have all the frequency range but still use them independantly, or you can use the internal low pass on the MPC2k/XL and then just run the sound through the individual outs to the MFC using the high pass during playback (as opposed to sampling it). Either way, it works great!

Id personaly choose the MFC42 over the EB16.
If you have the cash go for both!

I think I heard that same delays on 8ths on some of Pete Rocks tracks on Soul Survivor II and NYs Finest.
He tracked the sounds with the delays in. As I said, if something suits you from the beggining, why spend time looking for the same thing somewhere else? Youd probably end up using what you had in the first place.

Here's a small demo of how the EB16 sound like:
First two bars are original, after that I used some reverb then distortion, pitchchange, flanger, delay and played a bit with the filter. I like the extra whoomp you'll get when using a small bandwith filter on subfrequencies 40-70 Hz (like at the end of the demo)

Yeah the EB16 is not the greatest but theres a lot to be said for one box, not wires, all direct, instant FUN.

I love mine but if its being used as a master FX, Id run it out to an outboard everytime.

As for the MCF, there are better filter units out there that don't have akai writen on them!

true, but how much they cost?

you can get 8 Behringer Ultravoice or virtualizers for the price of an EB-16 or mfc42, but I personally want an MFC purely for the cosmetic appeal. That snazzy thing looks sick on top of an MPC.

^^^^^Did you really just RECCOMEND a Behringer product? -100 cool points.

behringer gets a real bad rap round here, I personally own some components for some time now, and they hold up decently, very decently as to what I spent for em. But lexicon has a damn decent effects processor for 170.

SO is the ultravoice or virtualizer a filter unit and is it better then the MFC42?
