I can tell right off the bat usually if the beat was made on an

MPCxl or a 4000

Cause the drums automatically come offe more rich in natural eq where as the mpc 4000 leaves it flat until you filter it...

Can someone tell me if they experince this..

I always have to use a Universal audio tube preamp to keep things rough..

I have an mpc2000xl and anything I make on it comes out usually 3db thicker meaning I have to cut away at 3 more db of low end

Hold it!

Do you mean that the 2kXL is louder or actually colors the sound in
a different way than the 4K?

Colors the sound with more Mid Range to Low freq

3 Db more

The mpc 4000 is missing this midrange to low that the mpc 2000 has.

Mpc 4000 crystal clear highs MPc 2000's and xl's more soft highs that dont pierce the ear...

My boy is trying to take the output A&D converters on both mpc 2000 Xl and
MPc 4000 and measure that actuall freq response to get a btter Idea

:? :? :? Does it really matter? When digital tape was a popular recording medium things like that mattered. Now with Pro Tools as the recording staple you can make something sound basically the way you want.

Umm yeah it does matter..
I have pro tools and I work with a mastering studio the stuff does out the same...

Maybe you dont understand the process of sounds...

YOu cannot add that color in pro tools its completly different...

WIth sounds it is better to start off with a solib source sound therefore you do not have to change much...

I mean if my Mpc4000 SOunded as good as my 2000 I would record all my tracks straight to DAT or 2inch Tape, But no now I have to use pro tools...To boost what I want..

I never had to do this..
I always just recorded my tracks and went straight to the mastering plant..
Never needed any fixing cause IT was perfect drums coming out perfect samples...

It was just an observation..
And Also I use a tube pre amp and a distortion box I made to boost the 4k signal ratio

Why do you use a 4k in the first place then if the 2k is better soundwise,
because what you are actually saying is that there's no additional eq
needed when using the 2k whereas you've got to work to make
the sound of the 4k less 'Earpiercing'?

yo Freedom,

this is an interesting topic

I guess you don't like the "clean" sound of the 4k and I also don't really like it but A little bit of EQing gets me the sound I really want

I don't see what seems to be the problem

also I don't know a lot about sound engineering and there's probably something I'm missing, but why when you EQ your MPC4k sound to sound like a 2kXL its sounds worse ?

well, i don't really get it, I hope you can enlight me on this one, I hope the measurements of the frequence response of the converters on the 4k will tell us more

peace

I think the 4k sounds pretty good.
And IF you hear the difference, well.. congrats!

I HAV EUSED THE 2000 AND THE 4000 AND WOULD NOT CHANGE
THE 4K FOR ANYTHING. THAT MACHINE JUST RIPS IT MAN. IT IS
24BIT AND THATS THE SOUND YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM
24 BIT CONVERSION. CLEAN, PUNCHY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
WHAT I PUT IN IS WHAT COMES OUT...

IF YOU LIKE THE 2000 SOUND, STICK WITH THE 2000. I THINK
THE 4000 BEATS THEM ALL BUT THAT'S JUST A MATTER OF TASTE.

i TRACK ONTO PROTOOLS AND SINCE HAVING THE MPC, MY SOUND HAS STEPPED UP TO ANOTHER LEVEL.

PEACE.

well, hearing Freedom's point of view is quite interesting, I don't know why you guys can't even hear a lil' bit criticism on the MPC 4000

personnaly, i own one and thus far, I am very satisfied with it

but I am in no way a sound engineer so I think that would be interesting to hear what Freedom has to tell us

let's face the facts and know what's the deal with all that, it's not hate from Freedom from what we can read he seems pretty satisfied with his 4k, that's just that he thinks some things are not as good as some earlier MPCs

you gotta face the fact, in everyday life, nothing is perfect and fawls are everywhere, trying to understand them is by no way hating, act like intelligent people and try to open your mind instead of hating on everybody that says something you don't like...

good point mistery. i use the 4k only, wouldn't trade it for anything atm but have now problems to hear the benefits of other units ...

i think freedoms point of view is very interesting too ... keep it rollin!

All I needed to hear 8) But what's more is that the 2k and any other
MPC have earned their credits due to numerous hit records...Any MPC
rocks I suppose!

The thing is, what if you wanted to get a clean sound out of the 2000 to raise the levels and then add the gritt? it would be hard to do that. I prefer starting out clean and then adding it later to get higher levels. The pre idea is always good.

Some of the newer producers' beats sound cleaner now, I noticed it, and you can play them louder without distortion, but that might be the digital versus analog stuff.

Z96 is a cleaner sounding sampler, and the engine is nicely done on the mpc4000. the ASR, that thing makes kicks sound bassy and dirty. I guess it might be easier starting out that way.

hahah
Guys going crazy over nothing....

I use the mpc 4000 everyday...Cause like you said it is a solid piece of machine..
If I commented on 24bit and other features then maybe you could comment..

But all i was talking about where the Analog to Digital Converters...

Why dont I use a 2k, MMMMM, I use it on drums....

Mpc 4000 I use for everything .

"THAT MACHINE JUST RIPS IT MAN. IT IS

Well first Off I dont use the 24 bit...I hate 24 bit sound...
Wow go put your music on a dvd if you like 24 bit..
But no one has a cd that plays 24 bit so your shit is getting dithered down when you listen to it on a cd so there is no way you are hearing full 24bit..
Unless you burned it to a dvd with DVD-audio
And the audio was recorded at sample rates of up to 96k..

then you might be on to something... And also when put sounds into the machine they do not come out the way you put them in
...
Read my posts clearly I said the MPC 4000 has less Lower to mid range when sampling..
The mpc 2000 and XLs have 3db more low end and mid...

Meaning you put a drum break in the MPC4000 its not gonna sound how its supposed to be... Its gonna be alot less thin..
You like the 2000 stick to the 2000...Ummmm I think I should not take this personally, but If you have no clue who you are talking too. maybe you should ask some question before assuming that I should go back to my 2000....
I have had 3 new Mpc 4000s in the past year b/c they all broke...
I mean I have never had to fix a MPC 60 b/c the jog wheel fell off..
ITs just common ground for something that is already of high qaulity to remain of high qaulity not..
To buy the best mpc to find out that its nothing more than a big toy...That will break eventually is not right...
I just want people to know that you are missing 3DB on the MPC 4000
How you can make it up -LImiters,Compressers,etc...
This is not an output thing it deals with the internal a&Ds its the input converters that struggle..
The output converters Really are the same as most of them MPCs except that the impedence was upped so grounding can be easier...

You people have to realize that I own a production company that Has to make certain deadlines...
The MPc 4000 is the only all in one machine that alllows for the effects q-link
Akysys
Cd-rs..
Reads Roland cds etc...
It allows me to function in one place without haveing to move all around a room..

With the 2000xl or 2000 I would just make beats track use effects in protools resample back into 2000 then do the process all over again..

What take 40 min on a 2000xl take 10 min on an mpc 4000..
shed some light...

Also with the MPC 4000 using filters and a low pole filter and the loq frweq with res turned all the way up..

freq- 25
Res 65

IT gives you this 808 deeep bass sound..Its cool
This is my teknique for making Bass patches out of anything...

The problem is when the AKAi MPC 4000 deals with low freq in this matter you will hear a clicking or a pop after you press the padd

The 4000 SUCKS for making my BASS patches cause it cause this audible click with the Bass patch so I have to sample the Bass back into the MPc 4000...
When its in 808 format with the clicking..
Then I filter the low freq again to like 80

So freq-80
Res-0
Now I got rid of the click b/c I just masked it but this never happend on any other mpc..

So tell me why can the MPc 4000 not handel the low spikes.............

I hate it for this matter but I deal so dont reply saying some dumb stuff..
cause I still deal.
And will always deal..

So go find out for yourself how much bass can your MPC 4000 handle////

Oh yeah the Bass was well below the 0DB line it was like 1 db under..
