Selecting a pad, silently.

Hi all. I want to know if i can select a pad without triggering the sound on it. For instance on my mpc-500 (yeah i know ) i can hold the shift button and then press a pad, then the sound wont play. Can i do this in JJOS2/2XL, and if yes how?

Yep, two ways come to mind. You can either hop into Grid mode, and use the up and down cursors, OR within program mode you change between pads by using the up/down cursors (or wheel). The pad selection will be reflected globally. No sound bro, just pure pad selecting goodness.

Why do you need that, for performing?

Yeah, i miss this and velocity-->sample start from the 500. The 500 also handles polyphony better. I'll better kepp it

500 is a tough little machine no doubt. I would have kept mine if I hadn't gotten hooked on the JJ "crack habit" OS... compatability became less than perfect

if anything just press the "full level" button. Then you can press the pad super light so you dont hear anything. Select the sample then put the "full level" back on....just a thought

Thanks all. I found out that i in the step sequencer can hit the pads without getting the sound.

In the MIDI/SYNC screen (mode + pad 9) you can turn "pad to internal sound" off. Then your sequenced events that you recorded will continue to sound but your manual pad hits will be silent.

This is useful live when you are playing back some sequences and want to use the mpc pads to control some external gear.
