Buying a used 1000 - things to check for?

Hi, I'm considering buying a used 1000 from craigslist. Can you recommend things to look at when I check it out, to make sure it's in good condition?

Some of the ones I'm looking at have replaced pads, while others don't.

first thing i would do. put the same sample on all the pads and tap through. assign sample to each output and plug your headphones into each, and make sure sounds coming through. make sure your stereo headphone output works right. check the arrow keys. go into trim mode with a sample, spin the wheel and make sure it works and doesnt skip. i guess pretty much try all the buttons and make sure they all work. if everything works, great. hopefully you know how to check if they are the old or new pads. upgraded memory? thats good, but you can get it cheap from a third party. hard drive? i dont need one, you might.

make sure to read through the manual and you know how to use it. if theres any problems then you can maybe get it cheaper. good luck

yeah i **** up and bought a used one with dead pads already. ='[

If you are buying online, best thing to do is ask the seller questions.

Look for a black 1000. Ya, some black ones have the old pads, but there is a better chance of getting one with new pads. Especially if they have the box, and it is the new black box, as opposed to the old blue box with a bk sticker on it.

Ask for the serial number. If it ends in BK, it has old pads. If it ends in BKN, it has the new pads.

My serial ends in BK. I thought being able to lift out pad 4 at the corner signified new pads...?

yes... the lifting the corner pad trick is the only real way to tell if it has the new pads... there have been cases of black mpc1000s ending in serial numbers with BK that have had old pads.

Whats a decent price for a used Blue one with JJOS and fully upgraded RAM, but without the new pads?

I have one that is in damn near perfect condition, just has one dead pad.

Obviously they will eventually need replaced, and some might want to do that up front. But i can't seem to sell the damn thing. I'm about to just keep it because its sentimental value is more than what anyone seems to want to pay for.

I dropped it all the way down to $400 with no bites. Trying to decide if it is worth selling.

you may regret selling it for that cheap.

just keep it and get the pad upgrade once you need it.

i love this thing, but its been collecting dust lately. i don't need the money that bad though, damn.
