How bright should the display be?

The display on my MPC3000 is bright enough to read all across the screen in a normally-lit room. Is this normal? The contrast knob works, it lights it more when depressed, but the contrast setting needs to be in one particular place for the screen to be adequately lit. I just want to know how bright the LCD can ever get.

The backlights for the LCD grow dim over time -- so you will need more ambient light to see the screen as the backlight ages. If you use your gear in dark environments, you can always buy a replacement backlight so you can read it better. Newer backlights are definitely brighter.

OK, I just had a chance to check it out. In normal light, the backlight is barely noticeable as making the screen any brighter, but when the lights are very dim or off, the backlight lights up the display well enough that the entire display is easily seen. I don't think it warrants replacement. Does a new replacement backlight make it that much brighter? I mean, in normal light can you tell that much of a difference, or if the lights are off does the backlight cause the display to be very bright or is it just bright enough to be able to read it easily?

well it depends if u can read the screen.... if yes don't change it... if no change it....
if you read it but want a perfect mpc3000 change it...

i can barely see mine in the dark, can it be the inverter or just a really bad backlight?

Backlight. If the inverter wasn't working, there would be no power going to the backlight -- you wouldn't see anything in the dark...

i wouldnt be able to see any text at all? cuz i can see text, but the backlight is out i think,its not coming any light at all from it.. i just got the mpc and i dont know how a really bad backlight looks like

edit: ooh! i pushed down the contrast button and now it light up:) but its a bit dim anyway, but now i know for sure the inverter works

i think im gonna order a foil from midi-rakete. im just wondering if the foil type 1 for the s3000, s2800, mpc60II will work with the 3000?

Yes they all use the same foil.
