MPC and MBox/ProTools LE - Syncing to record?

Is the only way to sync these two machines (MPC 2kXL and Pro Tools LE on Win XP) via the MTC? In other words, if I want to record pre-written Seq's (one track at a time or several at a time) into Pro Tools LE from the MPC, do I have to hook them up via Midi? I am trying to set my tempo in Pro Tools to the pre-written tempo of my MPC Sequence and then record the seq to track in Pro Tools, but I have been editing the hell out of them to try to make them match, as I hit record in Pro Tools, then hit play from MPC, so there is always a delay in timing and I can't match them up easily, causing much time waste in the process. Is there a way to sync these so that I can hit play or one or record on one and the sequences will record perfectly timed as hoped? Thanks...

Syncronizing your pc and your MP is the only practicle way to record. Trying to line up your tracks after you record them is, while doable, a colosal waste of valuable time. If you don't alrady have a midi device, go out and get you MIDIMAN 1x1. It's inexpensive and easy to install.

My only question then is...(as I have a Midiman 2x2 coming any day now)...does syncing up with the midiman still mean you can record non-midi related things in the manner in which I hope to? In other words, can I record in sync with 1/4" i/o and not just midi related stuff from my keys or module? Thanks....

Yes, you can record to pro tools w/out being synced.

I think maybe you misunderstood ym last question...I know you can record to PT w/o sync...I am wondering if you can record with sync with non-midi related things like keys, mpc, mic, etc? Does this make sense? If I am hooke dup with 1/4" cables and want to rec a seq from mpc or keys directly in via 1/4", will MIDI sync allow me to do that, even though I am not recording midi at that point?

yes you can, but I'm getting the feeling that you don't fully understand what midi sync is

I have the mbox and the 4000 all synced up nice and tight via my Tascam US122 through midi clock......Midi sync doesn't always mean syncing midi related notes. you can also sync audio using midi cables....! With my setup I only use the tascam just for syncing it to pro tools trough midi cables, while the mbox plays the audio......As soon as I press play in pro tools the 4000 follows it nicely.....

thx krush...did you just get your Mnbox?....anyway, so when you sync, do you use MTC and not midi clock? Also, do you set MPC as slave or as master?...in my setup I have one module, keys, the mpc, a midiman 2x2, mixer, and the Mbox with PT. I have always been taught to set MPC as master, but I dont know if that is right in this setup. I would probably want my keys to operate any soft synths (Project 5), but I also have several seq's setup that use only my nanobass mod and mpc kits that I would love to get down on Ptools. Your advice would be of great help...thanks.

In my setup pro tools is the master.......I use midi clock to sync them together....I think the only way to sync to pro tools is midi clock......As far as the master my mpc 4000 is the master of my studio meaning everything is built around it because i take sounds from different modules, sample cd's, and keyboards and sample them into the 4000, and then i lay a drum track over the sounds to complete the project next i lay the beat out in songmode and slave it to pro tools and finally mix and master from there.........!
