Beat Block

I've had my MPC 1000 (JJ OS free) for a couple months now and really love it. I read through the Beat Making on the MPC 1000 and sampled this and that record but I just can't get a beat out. I might be able to get the snare and kick part or some small area but the whole thing just isn't coming to me. After the first section is done nothing sounds even remotely decent. I know its stupid but has anybody else been in a similar situation? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Keep on practicing and studying. Evaluate ur work and workflow constantly. Why doesn't it sound like u want it to sound? How can u improve that? How come the drumpattern doesn't fit the sample?

First thing to focus on is chopping samples (youtube) and finding a drumkit to match. Learn how 'to lock it down'. Learn how to combine these sounds into one piece of music.

I suggest to just have fun with it for now and make beats just to understand the machine. Study the manual as you go along using the 1000.

You're probably pushing yourself too hard thinking the 1000 is gonna pump out platinum hits. Perhaps it will happen but you gotta stick to your roots first of how you approach making a beat. Then over time it'll stick.

If you haven't got some form of natural rhythm then you have a massive uphill struggle ahead. If you're having problems tapping out beats then FL Studio may be the better tool. Don't give up though mate.

This looks like good advice. Finding samples that blend well is the first battle but that seems like I just need to practice. Gotta love youtube instructionals.

I think I'm taking it all a little more seriously than I should be. I don't want to have spent all this money on a sampler I can barely use. It feels great to hear that somebody else understands this. Thanks

I would like to think I have natural rhythm just because of my musical work in the past and everything. I will say that FL is alright but I never really clicked with it. Just a personal thing I guess.
