URGENT HELP - Installing new 80GB Hard drive...

Hi All,

I just bought a new 80gb HD for my MPC1000 am running JJOS1 4.99 have installed correctly but when i turn it on and click MODE - LOAD to reformat its says HDD Free = 0.0MB??? Doesnt seem to be reading it?? i have 128mb ram installed too etc

Please if anyone can assist me on this to get me back on track its greatly appreciated.

You gotta do exactly what it says man, reformat.

The MPC can only read FAT32 drives I think, so if it's in NTFS or any other non-compatible format, you have to reformat it into the one that works (the MPC can do this).

You can think of formatting on a hard drive like the language of data to be stored in (kinda)...


If you have any valuable data on the harddrive you MUST back it up first on your computer or whatever because when you format a hard drive, all data will be lost.

Thx for the reply but sorry i am new to this as can't make much sense of what you suggested.

All my data is on CF so not concerned losing data just not sure how to get the MPC to read my new HD?

I appreciate your help if u can further elaborate and simplify this process for me it would help immensely.

Hi all, i worked it out yay now just trying to get all my samples from my sandisk 2gb CF onto the new 80GB HDD??

It seems when i selecte save entire memory it saves it as Project 1??

If someone can point me in the right direction, i'm done:)

use USB from computer to copy your samples.

It'll take forever to load/then save from the CF card.

Hey Neorteo, great will give that a go tonight, i dont plan to seperate anything of the samples into specific folders etc

But one quick question (again:) once it's all saved to harddrive and no CF is in the slot when i redit or rename sample for example it will automatically be saved to harddrive right not MPC internal memory?

hey neorteo, it worked dragging from mac pc to MPC1000 thx but as usual for me i ran into this problem, have u or anyone had this issue before?? here goes:

New 80GB HDD now installed and formatted all good!

Next: my current HDD memory as listed below!
HDD Free = 75865 mb
Wav Free = 118.4mb
Seq. Free = 4.6mb

Now I am loading up my wav files for a setlist but once i exceed 118.4mb it says "INSUFFICIENT MEMORY"!!! WTF??

Can i increase my new HDD space for wav file storage than max limit of 118.4mb???

Or make can i store my stuff via HDD Free space??? Ha the reason i bought a new HDD was to add more stuff.

Damn sooooo close again!

Oh i also have 256mb (128MB) installed too, anyone who help would be appreciated.

why would you need that much wav memory?

all my samples i use are wav files, what other file format can i save them in that can use the HDD space instead of wav space?? Thx

I know all your samples are WAV files, but why would you want to load that many samples onto your RAM aka onboard memory? Thats a shy ton of sounds my man.

the Wav free and Seq free referes to your RAM, 6 megs holds the OS

ok great, so u suggest i save my samples in another format i.e MP3 for HDD use?

Please let me know what u suggest is best in this situation as some of my wav files are from 12mb to max 50mb (keyboard sections mainly, am a live drummer etc).

The ram is maxed out @ 128 MB. You can't exceed this on an MPC.
I think these are your options:
- Use patterns instead of pads. With JJOS (2 at least, I think it's in 1) you have a "Play immediately" mode in the Next Seq screen, and you can play patterns with the pads just like you can samples. If the pattern stops playing, though, you'll have to hit Play again.
- You say these are "keyboard" sounds - does that mean you recorded them from a keyboard? Maybe use the MIDI outputs instead and sequence that keyboard. Basically, unless you are only playing one note, this is the same as the first option...
- Convert your stereo samples to mono. That will cut them in half (duh)
- Resample big samples with unimportant treble content to a lower sampling frequency. You will have to do this in a wave editor, I don't think you can resample in the MPC (correct me if I'm wrong). Then you can load them back in and change the pitch.

Hi, ok here is the deal with what i use.

I run 3 roland pd-8 pads via TMC-6 midi converter to MPC so i trigger the sounds (samples) when needed during each song (with drumsticks not fingers). I play drumkit with this set up live in my band!

So my question is can i turn my samples that are maxing out my ram to MP3 files or another suggested format and store them in my 80GB HDD and load them from there???
