Going to be running Reason 4 on a PC in a couple weeks

I currently have an MPC 1k - Akai OS
Yamaha HS-50 speakers


Old Numark Mixer and Turntable (I forgot the model # it came in a bundle pack)

I use the mixer to play my MPC through the speakers, but once I get my computer set up and all how will I be able to play whatever's coming out of Reason through the speakers?

Do I need an audio interface?

Please help, I'm kinda new to this all.

Your going to need some type of interface and software. Reason wont allow you to capture the audio. I personally use an Mbox at home.

I'm aware that Reason won't allow me to capture audio. I just need to know how to get the sound out of my computer into the speakers. I have 1/4 TRS cables for the monitors. Will I need an interface for this? Is there an alternative where I can just hook them up directly into the PC?

my Mackie U 420 Mixer allows me to play all programs (Cubase/Internet/iTunes/Sound Forge) along with my mK and 500, all through my speakers. Because it acts as my sound card, so I have my speakers and machines hooked up to it, and everything that is being played, plays through the mixer and my speakrs i have hooked up directly to it.

You also have to set your programs outputs to the mixer that your using, so that the program will be outputting through the mixer, which you should have some speakers hooked up to. so yes you'll need an interface.

Try to get an interface with a midi port

i'm going back to reason after graduating from recording school. now i know how to mix my own sh!t.

i'll be stronger this time. and i'll keep visiting back every once in while to see what you guys think.


after all, i make beats just to make em. and share them with the world. i don't give a fuk about gettin a deal.

this how 9th wonder does it

make beat in mpc, taking samples from a laptop
then records into pro tools with audio out from mpc into pro tools audio track

probably has computer and mpc hooked up to the speakers using a spitter or something

but for all, some midi interface, yea

or audio into computer, arm track on daw

and out into speakers

with a 1/4 to 1/8 converter

recycle and reason is working for me though nah mean

(dj toomp uses that setup(reason recycle korgnanokey) to make his beats to keep that in mind)

to each his own...before i picked up the 500, i was thinking about going all software and maybe a MPD or something. record the turntable into the computer (sound forge/audacity) then make the beats through FL or Reason. But i like to do the beat 'myself'. like drum my own shit out nowadays.

i hear you.. maybe somewhere down the line i'll get into that as well. as for now, i'd like to take the road where i started my path on.

the mpc is still extremely new to me and it's hard to get my ideas out. i'll keep it around to play with it.
