Problems with MPC 1000 sync'ed to Roland Juno-G Synthesizer

yo i got an mpc 1000 and a roland juno-g synth, and i connected them the following:

- MIDI OUT of the juno-g goes to MIDI IN 1 of the mpc 1000
- MIDI OUT A of the mpc 1000 goes to MIDI IN of the juno-g
- juno-g's main stereo output goes to the mpc's RECORD IN via 2 separate jack plug cables.

so when i wanna record a melody for my beat, i always record the MIDI data first, not the actual audio.
i create a new MIDI track in the mpcs sequencer, set its program to "OFF" cuz i don't wanna trigger the mpc's programs via my keyboard, and set the channel to "1A". i have to set the "Input thru" feature to "ON" by hitting MODE --> MIXER and then F5 (INPUT), otherwise i don't hear any sounds (that's normal isn't it??).

now comes my actual problem. i record some MIDI data and run the beat with loop set to on, everything's working fine. i can hear exactly what i recorded, i can add quantization (timing control feature), edit the midi data, or switch to another patch / instrument on the juno-g while the beat is playing, and it just plays back the same notes / midi data i recorded, with the new patch. but when i change certain settings on the juno-g like browsing thru the effects of the current patch or change settings like attack, release, cutoff etc. via the knobs (while the beat is still running), it will produce weird distortion-like noises. what could be the reason for that? when i stop the beat, then make my changes on the synth and then hit play again, everything works fine ofcourse.

maybe you're sending cc/midi data out of the juno to the mpc when adjusting pots and somehow that is causing the distortion. is there an option to turn that off for the pots/sliders?

yea i'm pretty sure it's got something to do with what you said... i probably need the juno-g to be a complete slave for the mpc 1000, so that it only sends midi data when i actually play the keys... any ideas anyone?

I used to have the same problem with my korg R3, it was very annoying and i never found a solution to it. I tried using my friend's novation k-station and it worked completely fine even when tweaking knobs. (and i should note that the knobs on both the k-station and r3 send/receive midi data)

I was just about to post this same topic! The JUNO-G will only play one sound,The sound that is selected. I have ran through every configuration to no avail and have been working with roland on it but it seems these two dont want to play together. On the oppsosite side if the juno is the master sequencer it works but its sequencer is nowhere near the mpc's.If anyone has the set-up working let us all know! Thanks

uh it sounds like youre talking about multitimbral problems. not the same issue at all. Have you assigned each voice to its own midi channel in the keyboard (strings = 01, bass =02, etc) and then set up corresponding tracks in the MPC with the respective midi channels (track 1 (strings)= midi 1A, track 2 (Bass)= midi 2A, etc)?

so there's nothing i can actually do about it?

unfortunately it seems like a synth problem and not an mpc problem. I posted a thread on the korg forum when I was experiencing the problem to no avail.

Yes it does work, I got it all situated and is a nice piece to work with! Change usb midi setting to storage/thru,
--remote keyboard switch off--midi soft thru off. That should do it,thanks to the guys at the roland forums.

which OS do you have on the mpc 1000 ? and which software version on the juno-g? cuz i had the exact same settings you posted and it didn't work.

Not sure if this was ever truly answered or not but I have the same setup and I found that if you turn "MIDI Thru" off, that distortion problem stops... just thugh I would give my input for anyone looking.
