Need Help...Popping noise on start of samples.

Im Having an issue.

example.......

recording a kick drum on MPC, i set the Threshhold for recording so it awaits input, hit record...... play the drum....... all appears to be ok.

when i analyze the sample in Recycle or any other GUI i find a irritating click(pop, fart whatever you want to call it) at the start of the sample.

then a silent gap of 0.1 second.....

then plays the actual sample.

Please can you help someone, I love my MPC500 but this issue makes baby jesus wants to cry and maybe spray the office up with an Uzi or something.

Things I have tried:

Different cable
Ram in, ram out
Firmware upgrade from 1.3 to 1.31
Different Input(CD player, mic, computer)
Factory Reset

Are you importing the sounds from your computer at 44.1kHz and 16bit wav?

Maybe its not trimmed enough? Discard the fat off those samples.

Not importing the sample, actually recording the sample on MPC500 causes the issue.

the MPC 500 adds fat where it isn't supposed to........

even if i trim and save the wav file still has this silly intro.

At the beginning of the sample it adds 0.1 second of silence to the wave even though i have set the threshold to the right amount.

Wierd.....

check "Zero Crossing" on wikipedia.

your not lining up the start/end points correctly on your sample, and its making it "POP" like that.

the kick i am recording starts from zero and is triggered in my sequencer.

I have the Threshold set to start the recording at about -46db, the sample starts recording at the very moment the kick drum is fired(i can see it happening), when i save the sample for some reason the MPC adds a short 0.1ms intro that has a pop at the very begining.

The MPC is adding stuff to my recording!

looking at the sample there is first this pop then zero for 0.1 second then the sample.

Try recording at different dB levels, I don't usually use the threshold to sample but when I do, I jack it up to -18dB to 0dB to record. Also try sampling manually by ear. I never had experienced that, but I'll try to recreate what you did and tell you what's up.

dude.. try pressing mode, then pad 5 which is trim, now on trim st. move the value, this will trim that pop noise out and the silence before the actual sample sounds, you need to trim ur samples homie...

if your sample doesn't start on zero in your waveform it will certainly pop no matter what.

if so, then you have some serious problems grounding-wise in your home.

What i want to know is why the intro and why the pop?

it was originally recorded with that little intro and pop, so all you have to do is just manually trim it up until the point where the kick actually hits. problem solved.

DPM I don't think you really understand what Im getting at here....

1. The recording only starts as soon as i trigger kick, not 0.1 second before(you can see this on the video if you watch it). It sits on "AWAITING INPUT" before i press the kick.

2. I shouldn't have to go in and manual trim the start point of 1000 samples, when this feature is supposed to START THE RECORDING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WAVE FORM.

3. I want to know if this is a firmware issue, I don't want a work around(its just supposed to work! but isn't doing it's job)

Ok, from what I see when sampling new material into the 500, is that it automatically trims about 2200 samples at the start point and that was manually. So I had to spin the jogwheel to get it down to zero.

Using the Threshold was tricky because at places where I want to record, the 500 would skip the signal and record a later signal or not sample at all. But when I did capture something at the right place and time, guess what, the start was also set to 2200 samples. This could be a bug on my part, but I would check the start point and trim it and discard the waste.

the function is called discard
if you don't want that silence go in trim mode and select discard
