I do the same as HollowBones with a audix i5 and haven't quite gotten it set up right to capture sound well enough to use (first time doing that) but I'm working on it.

I don't really like the fx on the 5K (this is most likely cause i suck at using them) and i wouldn't really recommend recording vocals on it............why, i dunno.

just felt like posting ???

i've had fairly descent results with a shure sm7b through a true systems p-solo and into the mpc 5000.

if its not the best, its because of my simple lack of recording experience and knowledge.

but yet again, i still get descent results. *although real recording knowledge goes a long way* i'm sure you can make it work for you

How about this if you have a daw or audio editor and a decent soundcard you know pro tools, motu or the like. Record your vocals into that.

Depends on what you want to do if you are singing the way through the song. Track your beat into the daw and record vocals over it in the daw. If you want to use the vocals as chorus or one shot record into your daw or editor aka reaper and then transfer it to your 5k by usb.
