help needed - just bought a 2000 XL w/ a card reader

Any help would be appreciated here. I am new to MPC's and I just recently purchased a MPC 2000 XL from eBay. This unit has a card reader built in rather than a zip or floppy disk drive. The drive has two slots, one for ms/sd/sm cards and the bottom is for compact flash.

I was reading through the manual and I got to the section for loading samples. I took a SD card (1 gig) and threw 5-6 drum samples on it. .WAV files. When I hit shift+3 to go to the load menu, the only options I get are F-ROM, which I'm assuming is the installed ram, and ATAPI. Is the atapi interface the one my card reader is assigned to? Because if so, I cannot get it to see my card.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Any help?

Do you have an ATAPI card reader or a SCSI one?

Did you format the SD card in your PC or the MPC? You need to format the card in your MPC first.

It's internal, so that means ATAPI, right?

I formatted the card on my laptop and threw a couple samples on it just to learn how to load sounds and assign them to pads; etc, but when I insert the card into the reader, it won't detect it. And the weird part is that there are 2 green status lights on the card reader. One next to the upper slot and one next to the lower (CF) slot.

When I pull the sd card out a little bit, maybe a quarter of an inch, the BOTTOM green activity light will flash on for a second. One time I got it to stay on by finding the magic spot, but the light corresponding to that slot never lit up. I would format the card in the MPC but all it says is "not ready" or whatever.

I just bought a cheap CF card on eBay, which I hope arrives soon. Maybe I'll have better luck using a CF card instead?

hey did u ever find out how to fix your problem?I'm new to the mpc2000xl too.I bought one on ebay with a card reader installed.I than bought a cf card from soundcrafting.com.I put the card in turn on the mpc but nothing happens when i try and load the flash card.the light doesn't even come on.Am i suppose to have bought a external card reader drive?i thought its already installed

No, I tried messing around for like an hour earlier. I think that my card reader drive may not read SD cards... I ordered a cheap CF card from eBay and when it arrives I am going to try again. It sucks not being able to use this thing.

Use a CF.

If you had have read around here first then you would have known about that. I've seen this
prob many times here, everyone just moves to cf.

Yeah, I realized that afted I posted initially.

After I posted I checked some threads and saw many similar posts. Must be annoying around here.

I bought a cheap 128 mb CF from ebay, I'm sure it will work. It just sucks waiting! At least I'll have a little time to read the manual since I don't have a ton of homework to do.

Just realized my laptop doesn't have a cf slot. Yay, now I have to buy a usb cf card reader. sheesh. >__>

No, I don't. I ordered a cheapie USB CF reader from eBay.
