An MPC or not?

Hey,

I currently own a Macbook pro with logic studio, so i've obviously got loads of sweet things to work with, however i've not had much success chopping up and using samples quite how i wanted (Logic 8 is quite limiting in this sense i think?).
Anyway, recently i've been toying with the idea of getting an MPC (500 or 1000?) so i can make beats on that, and then export them into Logic and add synths/bass etc.

Has anyone got any advice on this - chopping up and using beats on my computer or doing it on an MPC? Or are there software options that mean i can chop up samples to a similar effect as i could on an MPC?

U minds well stick with Logic, unless you're having a hard time learning it. I would strongly suggest adding a midi controller tho.

Everybody connects with different hardware and software. propellerhead makes a nice piece of software called recycle to chop up samples and guru is a pretty decent MPC substitute if your going the software rout. Still, just banging on my computer keyboard was pretty difficult to me so a midi controller would probably be important.

An MPC is a great idea if you can. It does the job of recycle and guru with the added mobility and simplicity of a hardware sampler. Try out the 1000 at a music store if you can and get the demos of the software. Do your research and everything should go over well.

Thanks for all the suggestions - they're all much appreciated! I've just got a copy of recycle, and so far that seems to be pretty sweet. I think the new logic (9) has got new time stretch functions etc, so maybe i'll have to upgrade...
