diffence between 2000 and 2000xl

My son is looking to buy a used mpc 2000 i have a 2500 but ive never dabbled in the 200 rhelm. Whats the major difference if there some

I'm assuming it's used.

they are both capable machines- as far as perks, they fall behind in comparison to a 2500, but are well capable of doing big things.

The Xl is a little more up to date.You can install a DIY IDE card reader with ease compared to doing it on the Xl.It also has features like Timestretch,which the 2000 doesn't have.I used the 2000 for years and just recently switched to the Xl so i don't know all the differences yet but if you really need to know.Cop both manuals and give them a read.

what? it is much easier to install a card reader on the XL then the classic 2000... (maybe that is what you meant)


the 2000 is a capable machine, but the XL is the better buy and more solid of a machine.

-tilt screen (which is nice not just for the fact that you dont gotta lean over... it is said that the screens last longer on the XL because there is much less heat on the LCD since it is not in the same compartment as the internals of the machine)
-the 2000xl can read folders!!! sounds stupid but it makes saving a crap load easier and more organised.. also the xl can read .wav files and .snd.
-more features on the XL, time stretch, no need to boot from disks like on the classic, more midi event notes (if you use a lot of external gear), etc...

the only thing the 2000 classic has that the XL doesn't is the awesome jog wheel. the XL has everything else... the good build quality, the good pads, all the most important features an MPC can have... go with the XL now instead of selling it in 3 months to get the xl then.

IMHO... for starting out, he should go with a 1000... the baby 2500!

Yeah,it's easier on the Xl than on the 2K.(to clarify)

you're right, it was the 3k i believe that could only do the .snd files... is that still true for the newer OS for the 3k? (valexi i believe they call it)

Yeah the XL lets you pick if you want to save as .wav or .snd. personally I always picked .wav since I wasnt opening the projects up in other mpcs.

The XL was able to read .wav files quite fine as long as they were the standard 16bit... never had a single issue. Keep those file name sizes down and you're good. Although when it comes to reading files from the computer I dont worry because I mostly sample (record in) from the computer anyways instead of card transfering... recording and trimming is part of the fun.
