it all depends on your budget. If you tight cop tha 2000...but if you got the few extra hundred get tha 2000xl with internal zip. like that other cat said you cant go wrong...look at tha track record for the mpc2000xl almost every producer from underground to mainstream has **** with tha 2000xl at one point or another...

if your gonna go...go 2kxl...I've used both, and the xl is just a better piece of equipment...it's got about all of the same features, and there are built in shortcuts, which is just more user friendly...

Classic does it for me. If I need to timestretch something I do in Sound Forge which is quicker I hear

i just traded my mpc1000 for a 2000xl.
i already like it more then my 1000 cause it has
the zone feature which makes chopping up samples
a piece of cake.

i luv the 2k-xl. never used anything else but it. and i dont think i ever will. yeh if i see a cheap 1000 i'd cop it. but yeh the stripping of features is wak. 128mb and 24 pgm's loaded at once is would be great for breaks/dnb set. i can live with 32mb and 4 pgm's..

Same here... Back in January copped the XL over the 1K... Man am I glad...

It's basically up to the individual on what you want in an MPC. I started this topic because I finally got to try one of homies 1000's and I didn't like it from the word GO. We tried turning the 1000 on 3 times and all 3 times the lil bugger froze up. It's like something you'd give your kid brother to play on so he doesn't f*ck with your gear.
Back in '99, one of my dawgs had a straight 2k he let me borrow and I was amazed by it. Luckily around 2000, the XL came out and I copped it.

To put it simply... I don't like the MPC1000. HATE ON!!

im told you can chop samples much easier on the xl.

Correct mr if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can chop samples on the 2K... I believe it doesn't have the Zone Mode that the XL has... I have an XL so I'm not sure, but I think someone on here said that before...

3 major differences btw the 2kxl and 2k.

1.What makes it an XL is that you do not have to boot up-it loads upon power. ( but you can have a flash rom on the 2000 straight with the OS in the flash rom, and you won't have to boot up everytime )

2.Timestretching capabilites.

3.The option of 4 programs to 1

and the big one-the motherboard on the 2000straight cannot handle an internal zip. But scsi is perfect. As far as editing, zones, chopping, paramaters-no diff.


BUT I PREFER THE JOG WHEEL ON THE 2000 OVER THE 2000XL-NO ONE REALLY MENTIONS THAT.
