midi to usb cable.. anyone using on their mp 2.5k?

Hey, I've searched the forum, google and youtube and I can't seem to find anyone using a midi to usb converter cable off their mp - (mite be a very good reason for this....) I have the og mbox (no midi) was hoping to use the mp as a controller via usb.

Anyway, wondering if anyone here has had any joy with this kind of midi set up?

Also, I'm new to using midi so prob been fcuking up the set up anyway. If I just wanted to use the mp as a controller (e.g. for reason, or logic or a soft synth) do I need to set up parameters in the mode/midi sync area? - slave mode, master, mmc on etc etc etc?

I've tried with no joy, also just tried setting main page areas to midi - drum to midi and midi on etc 1A etc, and there's still nothing happening? Although both the computer (the midi viewcon device) and the small chip/converter box seem to be working correctly.

I've looked in the manual and searched different areas here in the forums and cant find a solution. Basically I'd like to bang away on the mp to control various midi drum machines and the odd virtual instrument....

those MIDI to usb cables are usually labelled backwards... by that i mean that the cable that says MIDI IN should go into MIDI OUT and not into the same slot as labelled...

^^ Cheers, yea I found some info that said it's midi in cable to midi out of controller etc but it's still not working so I need a bit of a walk through from some of the midi heads on here....

Try and tackle one problem at a time.

First stop should be just hooking up the USB end to your PC and midi end to the MPC. I know you did that, but the only thing you should be worried about is making sure you generate notes, forget master/slave settings, for now.

Depending on which JJOS you have depends on the exact steps for this, but generally...

You probably want to set the track to MIDI, then you'll want set the track to output to a midi channel, probably 1A (of course if you picked B for your out then 1B).

From there you then want to make sure that Reason is set up to receive midi input, so select your USB midi device. Load a synth up since they tend to use a full keyboard range, make sure it is active and start beating on the MPC pads. You should hear some noise.
