Yeah, it's the same thing as on the 1000. The usb cardreader would be for your computer. The 3000 only uses scsi. So to use a cardreader to save/load with the 3000 you'll need one of these http://www.scsiforsamplers.com/cfcard.asp#ext. There's tons of different scsi drives, the zip drive and cardreader are just different scsi drives.

great... i hate more pieces than needed...

i am thinking about a 3000 LE with 3.50 OS and internal Card Reader
.... but man the price is 1600$ :(

isn that too much? add 300$ and i could get a minimoog :|

how much would be fair?

besides the 3.50 OS (200$) is there any difference at all bewteen a LE and a 32mb regular 3000 ?

i am not even sure if i like the look of the LE with that flowers or what that is, and somehow like that dirty yellow-grey of the classic... reminds me of old star wars Toys from the 80s

I'd just get the regular 3000. The le is just a little newer and has a different color(w/ music notes). Both are the same machine as far as specs. Some le's have the vga option, but the vga really isn't that special. Also the regular 3000's usually go for alot less than the le's.

Le's usually go for around $1600 to $1800, but the reg 3000's go for about $1000 to $1200.

yeah i figured..... okay.. star wars toy-grey than :)

so besides condition (pads,backlight etc)
what else do i have to watch/ keep in mind/ need

i have on my list
-3.50 OS
-Card reader build in (really the only way i accept this)
-USB Card reader
-manual

anything else?

edit.: hmmm seems like i mixed up.... there arent many coming with internal Card reader ....

i guess its pretty cheap available and easy to build in no!?

hmm counting costs together.. a scsi drive at the scsi or samplers + shipping to germany would cost me about 200$
3.50 another 200$

thats 400$ ... the 300 LE for 1600 has both included... if i can get him to lower the price 150-200$ its not really more expensive than the usualy round about 1000,- for a regular 3k

BUT it DOES HAVE the same electronics, same AD/DA, SAME SOUND and all than the regular right?

is there any good place to buy these mashines?

man i have a funny one

i think i will go for the LE as it has all build in what i need, saves me from going through the hassle

but i i think i H.A.T.E. the look of the Faceplate

are the calssic Faceplates an the LE ones interchangeable? and if so WHERE ON EARTH do i get a classic faceplate only?

not on MPC-Stuff.com it seems

The le and regular 3000 have the same electronics, specs and all of that. The only difference is the outside appearance. The internal mod/cardreader(if you were to get a 3000 without this done) is simple, depending on your level of electronics experience. The 3000 only has an internal connection for a floppy drive, so to have an internal scsi drive(cardreader) it needs modded(scsiforsamplers has a kit). Also just like the 60, 2000 and 2000xl faceplates, akai quit making them. Your only chance is to look on places like ebay for one and good chance finding anything.

yes most likley i will go for a classic now, the cradreader mod seems easy..

well but how to get an MPC 3000 and know that the Pad response and all is still good enough... doesnt help me if i end up with 100% velocity on all pads...

someone on here is offering me a 3k with according to him faboulus pads etc.. but his price is like 2 times as high as the usualy ebay ones...

are there many 3k`s with not so good pads, and if i buy one wich recently has been serviced and pad sensors+pads were updated, am i safe than?
or shouldnt iworry too much and most mpc 3000`s i buy will have still nice pad response??

another question came to my mind....

yes i do this switch for the sound, timing feel and whole vibe of the old units, but the final + in my decision where reading the functions of the 3.50 OS wich really are ideal for my workflow and no personaly unneeded functions that are only in my way like the ones in the 1k....

BUT about sound and vibe i have one important question:

i am not at all a Fan of that G-funk,Dr. Dre boombap westcoast vibe (not to say there isnt great stuff from Cali....)

much more i like the jazzy mellow stuff from NY thinkg Guru,Premier etc.... also because i do not make Hiphop i do rather jazzy-funky music blended with hiphop beats and elements etc....

i am jsut asking myself if the 3000 will rather have the G-Funk vibe and feel what i am totaly not looking for but that the 60 / 60II would rather fit this...

is that so or is that bullshit?

if its so i am fukked, because no 3.50 OS and i bet 60 isnt a optimal workflow mashine

If the pad sensors are bad, then replace them. It's easy and only $70. None of the mpc's give you a certain "vibe". Hell dj quik used a sp1200 and so did pete rock. The music they made was nothing alike. Same goes for the 3000 and all the mpc models. Dr.dre, dj quik, j dilla, dj spinna, 88 keys and countless others all use the 3000. They all have different styles. So that ideas bs  .

Well, the 60's a cool mpc, but it's kind of hard to find a cheap one with the scsi option, 3.10e os and maxed ram in good condition. Even then you'd probably want to pick up a s900/950 to sync with the 60 so you have more sample time. The 60 has an awesome sound because it's 12bit instead of 16bit like the rest of the mpc's, but that's not to say all the 16bit mpc models sound the same because they don't. Either one you choose will be great a mpc, but there's a few more workarounds with the 60.

ion wrote:its not that i cant do tracks with the 1000 but it often feels somewhat like its hard to get the drums really right and also even with the pad upgrade i think the pad feel is somewhat stiff... but i would also be after the whole sequencer groove and fat unique sound of the 3000

Honestly if the timing of your drums don't sound right on a 1000, the sequencer on the 3000 isn't gonna solve that. Now.. the pads are definitely bigger and better, which could help you tap the beat in right to begin with.

Either way you should cop a 3000... it's a hot machine with a lot of history and you sound pretty hyped on it. Give it a few months, and if doesn't work out sell it-- the resale value isn't going anywhere.
