Hi I've had my mpc2500 for about 2 years and haven't really used it, not like the videos i see on youtube where the producer is handling it roughly and stuff to make some good beats. The only thing i tend to do on it is add the JJ OS when a new one comes out since then some of the buttons need a really good push on them for them to light up e.g my MODE button and my < STEP> buttons. also my up and down on my CURSOR needs to be pressed really hard. Is this a software issue or do i need to clean the inside or something. All the other buttons work fine. Sometimes when i push on the button they just dont do nothing Can anyone help i feel like i hardly used it and its not working.

Edit: Its the most basic Mpc is this helps 32mb flash card and i think 128 memory, no cd drive

Sounds like the tact switches could use some cleaning. Take the top off and spray the tact switches under the buttons with an electrical cleaner.

I was actually wondering about this the other day.

I was soldering some leds on my operation assembly board and noticed that the 4 small tact buttons for the cursor had some solder points the were connecting from the left and right ones to the bottom on two solder points.

I remembered recently having to push the bottom one down harder than usual for it to work.
My initial response was to fix the solder points and break the shared connection they made.
But I didn't. For one solder is not conductive, so it really shouldn't make a difference.
on top of that, if they were sharing some kind of common ground I didn't wanna mess with it.

Instead I took some masking tape and stacked a few pieces of it on top on one another, then cut out a small square of it just big enough to cover the tact buttons top and placed it on the tact button itself, then put the cursor back over it.
Worked like a champ. In addition, there is not as big of a push to get it to click. its much much more responsive.
Actually, it was too responsive.. I actually redid it and used a layer or two less tape the second go round.
Perfect.

This usually does the trick. Just get the standard electric cleaner/duster spray from your electronics store.

If you use JJos XL you should use the numeric buttons to switch modes... makes the mode button almost obsolete.
