yeah I got a buddy with a 5000.. he raves about that light pipe 8 out connection.
you cant be mad at the capability of feeding 8 outputs over one wire.
That simple connection makes recording 8 outs simultaneously easier than ever.
To some cats just the thought of spending the doe on a 8ch snake alone is enough of a put off to not use the analog outs. I mean how many of use do with our 2500's and 5000's? I know I dont..
Seems like it takes just as long to setup and get levels on 8 input channels individually as it does 8 channels all at once.
But with the adat output, having the ability to do it over ONE cable, and having the option to keep it all digital from the mpc to the box.....?
nice option. Especially since so many mixers and soundcards give this option.
Personally.. I would love to use this with a digital mixing console, to spit 8 channels digitally into a desk top mixing console and have some control over the 8 outs at the mixer level before bussing them to the pc.
to keep control at my finger tips and not a mouse click.
I could do that now, but it would require me to suck up 8 channels on my current analog board plus buy a 8 channel snake to run from my 2500.
A digital board with a adat input and fader banks and a 5000 with a adat output? PERFECT!
Just thinking outloud.

thanks for sharing so far!
Yeah the One-wire thing sounded like a clean way to record into my DAW too, thats was basicly why I was asking.
Let me ask you this question though: You were talking about mixing the levels of the individual channels running through the adat. Why do you want to bring an other element changing the levels if you can do that by using the mpc?
Here's what I'm used to to with my MPC3000&MotifXS7 setup:
Id bang out some sequences with Drum hits coming from the 3k and some MIDI Tracks played from and going back into the Motif.
Then I'd mix my levels digitaly with the 3k just using main out and the main of the motif mixing the individual tracks inside the MPC or the levels stored in Motif Pattern Mode allowing all instruments to have their own effects and volume etc.
Then at given time when I was going to reload the track I would load from CFlash inside the MP and the Pattern saved inside the Motif Memory.
The Result would be that the mix would sound just the same as it did when I first recorded a snapshot for it.
If I had a mixer and outboard hooked up to all the machines or using lets say a digital mixer, wouldnt I have to save an other mix and load that up as well?
Seems pretty convenient this way, and I was planning on doing this with the Adat as well, letting me use more Motif Outs through the Analog Ins of my Multiface.
Btw, the Multiface/PCIe-MacPro/ExpressCard-MacBookPro Solution has been the best investment in Gear I ever made.
I bought the Breakoutbox ages ago and it hasnt failed me once. Love the Converters, the Latency Performance and the durability of this box. And I have never spoken to a RME-afiliated person in my life..
Anyhow, as you see I like thinking out loud when it comes to these things, so please share on if you can.
Anybody else, I'd be interested in your daily workmethod using Adat as well, since I believe switching from the 3000 to the 5000 with ADAT will be the way to go for my new workflow with Logic Pro

yep the rme are really solid soundcards...
never had a problem with it...they are not the cheapest but you not gonna sell them the next month...for a lower budget i would recommend the emu 1212m also a solid soundcard with good converters...

Once you set up the 5k's mixer for adat out, 1-8 is there any way you can set the mixer to always default to these settings for all program's? setting up the mixer for each new program you load is a bit of a pain..
Any idea's on this?
thanks

^ that would be awesome indeed but unfortunately I don't think you can do it.
As far as the adat I use it as well with an RME fireface 800 it works very well and as mentioned above I can use the analog inputs for other things. Don't use it everyday but when I do sit down to make music it's definitely the connection to go to to bounce sequences.

It seems every time I load a new .pgm the mixer defaults back, whats up with this,is there anyway to make it default to the mixer settings I choose, I'd like to set up a verb, compressor, delay as well, all using adat out 1-8, is this possible?
If so how? thanks

Is there not anyway to lock these settings in?
