How to create bass line kit out of one single kick ?

Ive heard people creates "sub bass" line kits of of one single kick?
You have heard this in Jay Dilla beats etc.

Out of my understanding they chop the kick to you hear this DRRRRR sound.
And then they lay them on on 16 pads and tune them somehow?
And they will be able to play bass lines on the pads.

I have an MPC 2500 but i guess this will process will be similar with other MPCs.

Ive been looking for a video or a tutorial of this many places but i cant find it anywhere.

You can start with a long sustain 808 kick, and set the sample start so that it chops off the initial attack. Then use 16 levels, and set it to "tune."

Where did you hear about using a kick sample to make a bass program? I think most start with a bass sample..

why would you use a kick when you can use a simple sine wave and not be limited by the short duration of the kick sample?

But how do I turn this short sound to stretch out as a long bass line without stopping when not pressing the pad?

Yeah, listen to Pound and Lamp. To add, when looping, you wanna set your loop points so that it loops smoothly without a popping noise. As an alternative, you can find one of those 808 style sub bass notes too. You can set the looped sinewav or the 808 to 16 levels and play it on the pads. Or, you can make an autochromatic program of either sample and play them on a midi keyboard.

Once you get the loop set, go into the program screen and hit the pad of the sound you want to fade out. Push open window on the sound name and set it from one note to note on. Then highlight the sound gain/vol and push open window and increase the decay. You will have to hold the pad a little bit to get some momentum on the sound going, but when you let it go, it will fade out nicely, depending on how you have the decay set. Just adjust the decay to your liking.

Is there a video somewhere on this (or can someone make a quick one)? I am a new MPC user ( I go to the manuals a lot both MPC and JJOS). I have a MV and this is pretty simple on it, but I'm still learning the ins and outs of the 1000. Its going to be my primary travel piece (for size reasons). I'm not completely clueless just need a little more help on this topic. Trying to follow in text is a little difficult. Thanks.

i can dig up and post a link, but at one point i created 100 bass pgm's each with only 1 sample, all differant.

Much appreciated. If you can find it pleas post it. So you made like 100 pgms off 1 sample or each pgm originated from one sample not necesarrily the same sample?

the zip contains 2 folders. one called "nano" and one called "112 bass new"

the nano folder contains 190 samples and 190 pgms that replicates all the patches on the alesis nano bass. (1 sample per program) chromatically spread out and each sample is looped for infinate play. the samples where originally from hollowsun but they took em down, i got them before they did, created programs, and looped each sample - some of the loops are a little off but i think they are good enough and you can adjust them. these are setup like how lamp described above. info on nano bass: http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/nanobass.php


the second folder contains 112 bass one shots, (samples not looped-although they can be), and a chromatic program for each one - they are set to note on. so, as long as you hold the pad/key the sample will play until it ends. there are 2 additional pgms where you can load all the samples at once and then use 16 levels. samples are originally in key of e.

these work on mpc2500, not sure about any other mpc although the samples are .wav so even if the pgms dont work, the samples will.
