Which modules can play 3K sounds?

Hey guys. I know this has been covered before in the forums, but I did some quick searching and couldn't get a definitive so I figured I'll bring it up again.

Can any of the Akai S rack mount samplers with SCSI load & play MPC3000 sounds?

I think the whole s3000 collection does. Maybe also the s2800 and s2000.

I just spent some time reading the manuals That I downloaded from akai.

z4 = yes


the manual for the s3000 was not available, I am sure that this will not load mpc3000 files.



just to be straight the general answer is no.

The s3000/S3200 S3000XL/S3200XL have the same file system.

MPC3000 supports this, and it supports the S1000 as well.

Of course, this is for .snd's only and not .pgm's

So I got an "I Think", a "Not Sure" and a "Maybe".

Let me rephrase. Any real world confirmations that an Akai module can load & play snds from a 3K zip?

ehh, I guess i can't play them...I was playing S950 disks...it wouldn't recognize the 3k only disks....unless the drive is messed up, been a while since I've used the S3K

the manual says the S3000 can play S950 disks (that are on HD diskettes) S1000, and S1100 disks... no mention of any MPC module

So the Z-4 may be able to do it. Anybody with a Z-4 and a 3K that can confirm?

I have done it on the mpc4000, with a usb floppy, so I am sure the z4 will work

Go play with your 4000 and quit clogging up a post that's trying to get a foreal answer.

the 4000 and the z4 have the exact same sound engine. I have owned both.
anything the 400 will load, the z4 will also.

how about yo go **** yourself, and just get any rack mount you like.

See, the Deal is that the MPC 3k can load sounds from the Akai "S" series samplers from the S1000 on down to the S3000xl and possibly the S2000 but this only works in one direction...
From the "S" series sampler to the MPC never the other way around. The MPC 4k and Z4/Z8 will read MPC 3k SND's and PGM's but the MPC 3k cannot read it's data.

That definitely helps. We just need a user with a Z-rack to test & confirm. You don't see too many Z4s or Z8s on the used market.
