Whats a 60II worth?

Hey so my mate decided he wanted a 60II after he spent some time with the one I picked up. Of course he manages to find a 60II that is in pretty much tip top shape, Ram, SCSI, 3.10e software, 2yr old floppy drive. He went to the guys studio and said it's a 9/10, some very light wear, and a small scratch or two. The sellers asking $850 which seemed a little high since I paid half that for mine. Mine was pretty dirty w/ a dead backlight and no SCSI though. I told him I'd ask here if that was a good deal on one, seems a little high to me but I've just gotten into the 60II.

Not more $550..600 the most...Some people try to get their investment back...I seen a Kurzweil K2000 for $1000 on ebay..good luck..same model k2000 sold for $202. Some people try to get over on others. If he wants $850..i says leave that sh#t where it is. An item is not worth the same as the day you bought it. Keep looking.

I agree with that for the most part.

but at the same time.. the condition can play a major part in its value.

but mainly.. when it comes to old gear like this.. its about the value of the gear, AND the value of the gear to the person buying it. If the guy can buy 2 6/10 mpc60II in the 500-600 range, or a 9/10 60II for 850, and its worth it to him to spend the extra money for the care and excellent upkeep that the original owner put into it..
then its worth every penny.

I for one baby my gear to get as much out of it as possible at sale time, but mainly because I want it to work like it did the day I bought it. That takes alot of effort in some cases, especially over time.

So paying more for something that is in nearly perfect or new condition?
hey if thats what you want. and its worth it to YOU.. then its worth it. period.

MOst of the time I WONT even think about buying something used if it doesn't appear very well cared for.

I agree with Triple-X. How much is it worth to the person. I bought an MPC 3000 for $700..the machine was in excellent condition. It hadn't been used in years. When i went to the guys house he forgot where he stored it for a minute. The pads were dirty but when i cleaned it, it was about a 9 out of ten. I replaced the tact switches because some buttons did not respond good. I'm sure it's worth more that $700 bucks now.

I say it is worth it

RAM upgrade =100
scsi upgrade = 300
new floppy = 90
OS upgrade = 200
upgrades alone = @ $700
I know they can be had cheaper, but for arguments sake


a good condition mpc60 with no upgrades is going to @ $500

maybe try to talk him down to @ $700


I would pay $850 for a fully upgraded, minty mpc60/60II no problem

I told him maybe he should offer up $750 and see what the seller says. Guess the story is that the seller bought it for a couple grand a decade ago, cleaned it up and upgraded the OS, SCSI, just put a new backlight in recently, and only uses it rarely in his studio now. I have to admit, maybe I overpaid, but to get mine into the same condition, I've calculated it would cost well over the sellers asking price, mainly due to the SCSI option costing so much. I'm a little bummed thinking about it, maybe I'll buy it if he doesn't!

I would snatch it up, as my 60 does not have scsi.

That's the one reason why i waited and found a 3000. The options for the MPC 60 are costly...SCSI, OS, memory upgrade your looking around 400-500 bucks. And that to the price you paid for it. Try selling it after the upgrades you may not get that money back.

I had 2 MPC60II's. Fully upgraded and clean. I got alot of non paying bidders on ebay when I tried to sell them. I finally sold them each for a $1000 to people in Europe. They're in high demand over there.

yeah Europe is going crazy for the old school shit, plus the Euro is so strong-they can afford to pay more...once they get over there, good luck getting them back! The way the currency game is looking, the Euro will get stronger and stronger and they won't be able to export shit (longtimeawayirealize)

Well I went to this guys studio today with my mate and see the MPC. Yeah it was in nice shape, I'd say it had a couple small scratches that were of no bother and everything was clean and functional. He also had quite a bit of other vintage gear(drool) that was in great shape too, a perfect MPC60MK1 unfortunately none for sale. He wouldn't budge from his price though, so it sold for $850, if my mate hadn't bought it, I would've. Even though it may have been on the high $$$ side, you'd really have to see it to appreciate it. It looks like it'll last another 20 years. I'm jealous.

Funny enough I've sold a few bits of kit overseas and yeah they will definately pay a higher price than anybody stateside would.
