The reasoning behind this is that MC is not as accurate as MIDI Time Code, etc.

Hmmm... thanks for that, good to know. It's been a long time since I used Cubase anyway (I'm a Sonar fan, but haven't used that since I got my MPC1000).
I suppose it depends on what they mean by saying MC is less accurate: I know it won't fly in a super-critical environment such as soundtrack scoring, you'd definitely want a MTC/SMPTE master sequencer there. But for general musical work, I could see it being just fine.
On the original question: I happened to look at VST Hosts today, and I see that the TobyBear MiniHost manual says it has MIDI Clock support. And it's free:
