My MPC2000XL Is Stuck On Stupid.

"ATAPI Zip and OS Update - You may run into a problem updating the OS of the MPC with an internal ATAPI Zip. If you update the OS from and ATAPI Zip, the MPC my fail to recognize the presence of the ATAPI Zip upon reboot."

Aiight, unfortunately I didn't see this before I updated the OS to 1.14. My MPC2000XL w/internal zip drive is stuck on stupid now. The screen say "Error at 28A9 0000." Does anyone have a work around for this. Thanks.

If you still got a floppy drive, replace it for the Zip drive, save OS 1.14 to floppy and reboot with the floppy.

You don't want anything older than OS 1.14

Is there a way to resolve this issue if you don't have a floppy drive?

I wound up sending my unit to VST and they repaired it.

The Operating System had to be reinstalled on the ROM Chip.

its pretty easy to do if you got a power converter cable and a floppydrive (that works in the 2000xl)
done it a couple times allready (knucklehead friends trying to upgrade their own 2kxl and forgetting to upgrade first)

So essentially if you can get the MPC to read an external drive with 1.14 on it, you can reinstall from that? I have an old CD-RW drive with a 25 pin SCSI connector, but I'm thinking if I burn the OS to a CD and get a SCSI adapter I should be good.

Might work from cd drive but I tried it from an external zip and it didn't work (1st time I did it)

i'm not yet a 2000xl user, it's arrived today, but it has not the floppy disc.. so i thought.. could work if i put the OS in the internal Flash ROM? i remember i could do this with the 2500.

Hmmm, well I'm going to give it a shot with the external CD drive and see what happens. Better than buying a floppy drive or sending it to a shop if I don't have to do so.

you can install from SCSI...... works just fine

I don't believe there is cause for flashing the boot rom, as this was directly after installing from zip correct?

The only reason you'd have to send it out would be to have the boot loader flashed to rom, and that would only be if the flash/intel chip got zapped/wiped/corrupted

With the 10 xl's that I had to reinstall the os I couldnt install from external zip/cf

might be that the os was corrupted?
