any one know about this?

im trying to lay down a different voice on a track but everytime i try and change the voice on my controller it will change but when i play back the track that i previously recorded it play s it in the voice that i just changed to. so i cant add new sounds to layer . ive tried pretty much everything but i cant figure it out and the manual dosnt say

Do you have upgrade RAM?

I had the same type of problem. Turns out I maxed out my Polyphony.

If I'm right, basically you have used up the available sampling time. To get more you need the upgrade 128mb RAM

how would i know if i have maxed it out ? how can i check that. and if there are any suggestions on how to fix the problem i welcome any one elses suggestions

i appreciate all help not trying to hurt anyones feelings out there just want all suggestions im sure there is a answer to the question and im sure your right. and the manual thing geez this goes out to whoever reads this if your new to this dont let all the cool guys tell you to read the manual thats what they all say. ask your questions someone cool will answer, everyone has problems. but there is a manual. and not all answers are in there. Im sure now im blacklisted on this his thing. lets just make music and help everyone out i thought this site was about that.

I wasn't tryn to be a d1ck. And no I doubt your blacklisted lol

Honestly though, you have 2 choices dude. Either a) remove some elements to give you more polyphony or b)get the upgrade ram. You can only fill a box to it's capacity ya dig?

You either need to take something out of the box, or make it bigger.

Ok so i got the upgrade ram but im still having the same problems. why is it still only allowing me to use one voice on my controller. ok so ill describe my problemin detail. I have my akai,sound module and mixer andkeyboard controller. everything is connected as the manual suggests. so heres the problem lets say i make a drum pattern on onen track, i go over to the keyboard make a bass line on the second track. now when i want to play a melody on the keyboard(which is just a controller).When changing tracks and picking a new voice for the melody it changes the 2nd track bassline to the voice i wanted to use for the melody. HELP!

The polyphony restrictions is my biggest gripe with this little thing. Kind of defeats the purpose of having four sound layers for each pad IMO. Best I can figure the only work around is stacking and resampling like bouncing a four track back in the day.

this is my first mpc. I find it hard to beleive that it could be so limited. so when hooking up my 500 to a sound module you cant get any differnt sounds but the first sound you choose to use.that sucks. so if i record a piano part on one track im gonna have to be stuck with that same pattern i play regardless of the sound i change it to. there has to be something.

Robthom thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The problem was not with the akai, i needed to change the channel on the sound module and change the channel in the akai.

I was going to point that out cause some of these answers were way off, lol.

Once you record a midi track, leave that voice alone, use a different track.
make sure all your voices have unique midi channel numbers
On the mpc midi track device use a different midi channel number.

midi module horns = midi channel 1
seq 1 - mpc midi track1 - device 001

midi module synth = midi channel 2
seq 1 - mpc midi track2 - device 002

midi module piano = midi channel 3
seq 1 - mpc midi track3 - device 003

etc.
