greetings, newjack to the MPC world and i just copped a 1000

Before enterting the AKAI promised land I used Logic Audio Platinum (which some of you are probably familiar with) and there is a function to set the tracks BPM to the exact BPM of your loop

Can it be done (and if so how?!!?).

Cheer & Peeshe,
Barbados Slim\

(edit - just noticed the newb forum, gonna post there but any help is still appreciated! thanks.)

whatsup man welcome, there is no function that lets you know what the bpm of you're sample is. I pretty much do it by ear, the tap tempo can be used but i not a big fan. If you have a program like that then you could always either 1) sample into the computer get bpm then tranfer to mpc
2) download a bpm counter (there's a link somewhere on this site or just do a google search.
3) do it by ear
peace- hope that helps ya out

I don't know about the 1K, but there is a way on the 2KXL to find the BPM of your loop... From the Trim Screen make a loop out of your sample and make sure Loop is set to :

Loop: On

Then switch over to the Parameters screen from the Trim screen and you should be able to change the number of beats that your sample is... For instance, a 2 Bar Drum Loop is equal to 8 Beats... Pick how many beats your loop is and then it will tell you how many BPM's you loop is...

Like I said... this may not be true of the 1K, but check it in your manual...

word, had a bit of a play doesn't seem to be any parameter options in this 1000.

Can't find to much in the manual either but i do remember reading the differences between 2000 and 1000 and that the 1000 lacks time stretching so i guess that could why its not there.

deity, i've been loopin up in logic and using the bpm from that just sometimes its slightly out, all good!.

cheers fellas!,
Slim.

Majority hip-hop I'm pretty sure... A few drum n bass and jungle and house cats in here... A lot of people experiment with other styles, but it's mostly hip-hop... What do you do???

Not seen a function for that in the MPC1000, we're looking at doing the math...

1) calc the number of samples from Trim screen: samples = End - St

2) convert to seconds: secs = samples / 44100
(MPC1k always uses 44100 samples/sec)

3) calculate bpm: bpm = 60 x beats / secs
(beats = the number of beats in the bar, usually 4 for a 1-bar loop.)

example from manual page 52, the Trim Mode screenshot. If that was a 1-bar loop, then...
1) St = 4410, End = 136307, so samples = 131897
2) secs = 131897 / 44100 = 2.99 seconds long
3) bpm = 60 x 4 / 2.99 = 80.27 bpm. (slow groove!)

repeat after me: numbers are your friends... 8)

why not just take the sound unlooped and put it at 01:01:01 on a track.

adjust bar length to how many bars your sound will be (that should be pretty obvious), then adjust the tempo till it loops perfectly, and read the bpm off the screen.

Yeah, that'll work... but too easy! 8)

maybe, but i end up doing all this math to get delay settings, so i dont feel bad slacking on the bpm to loop stuff . ..

bidi that's how i was gonna say do it. i use that method ALL the time
