i been a long time acid pro and reason 4.0 user
but im just sick of the software sequencing ,the only benefit i get is mixing and rendering my tracks on the laptop.
I want to pick up a mpc i have $1000 to spend, either new or used mpc.

first heres what i have

1. laptop with reason 4.0 ,recycle and acid pro with well over 300 gigs of refills and drums
2. 4 midi controllers,25 to 88 keys
3.euro desk 24/8 mixing board( i dont really wanan use it too much power)
4. turntable ,vinyl
5.krk rp5 monitors
6.m-audio fast track pro with 2 midi input/output and 2 auudio in jacks

now im looking to add the mpc in to the mix,my initial plan is to do all the sequencing on the mpc and use the software for sound sources aswell as mp3s ,vinyl and cds.

i was looking at the blk mpc 1000 which looks pretty portable but i dont know how much can be done in the box ,as far as effects and mixing ,with out having to record in to a laptop for a mix,and i was also looking at the mpc 2500 which has a cd rom option drive for burning songs to cd? and also loading songs?...i see it also has alot of mixing options compared to the 1000?

another thing i wanted to know is what exactly is the jjos ? i know i will be getting it but what features does it have?

im pretty sold on getting a mpc regardless,i spent endless hours in guitar center just playing with stock drum sounds alone and jamming out ,but i really cant stand a laptop screen and software and more for making beats..

could anybody recommend what mpc would be best for me and what exactly i would need to purchase to add to my setup and get going.

much love -

completely different ballgame dude, much simpler and hands on, and ear on, minus alot of visuals.

May I suggest a better interface also?

with your budget, I would recommend a used 1000 with jjos 1, and a better interface for fine tuning and multi-tracking.

JJOS is a third party operating system with alot of advanced and more intuitive features, such as Global Program Editing, 16 layers per pad, Live Sampling(direct recording from an external source while a sequence is playing, great for keys and guitars), sound mapping, precision editing and zoom features (auto-chop)and a whole other slew of stuff, not to mention a mixer wth 3 band eq's on each channel. Its pretty dope, dude. Also, a mpc 2000xl would do well, if you aint looking for portability. Pretty powerful tool if you know how to use it, and it does have a unique sound colouration to it.I went from a 1000 to a 2kxl, and theyre both pretty dope man, But yeah either can be had used for under 500 bones, oh yeah, the 1000 has usb connectivity for loading sounds.

Thanks for your quick response man

yea i just cant stand the software work flow ,i just like to zone out alone in my own world and thats why i like the mpc

so you would suggest maybe a second hand black mpc 1000 with the newest jjos?

i know the interface i have now is just something i was using for general playback with my laptop daw.(is there one you would recommend?)

Also is there much of a difference between the 1000 and 2500 as far as features? does the cd rom even come in handy?Does it bounce individual tracks or is it to render 1 individual songs created in the box?

and one other question the direct recording for external sources with the new jjos does that mean i can record my interface output right in to the mpc and use my laptop as a external sound source in to the mpc<or even play my own melodies from the software and chop them up as audio <or is that a bigger process?

Yes!. Do not underestimate this lil thing dude, the pads suck IMO, but thats easily replacable with softer aftermarket ones. I only got to mess with mine for about 6 months and was barely scratching the surface.

I wuld recommend a Firewire interface if capable, such as a Pre-Sonus Firestudio, or a motu 828, but a decent usb interface will do also. Just make sure you have more than 6 ins, and multiple outs so you can bounce our tracks back and forth easily.

MPC 2500=2 q-link sliders, 4 knobs, button shortcuts, better pads, 8 assignable track outputs, adjustable flip screen, all features of jjos1 on mpc1000.
The 2500 jjos i dont know anything about,
but I do know the 1000 is the only nukai machine without fail attached to its name. It may cut you on space, knobs, buttons and outputs(4 on the 1000 versus 8 on the 2500), but the 2500 and 5000 models seem to suck in areas of reliability.

like, say you have your drums and backing melody arranged, and you wanna play some sounds from your synth program from your computer to give it presence. So, you would hook up your outs from the interface, into the ins of the Mpc, select an audio track to record on(track 57 or after, if i remember right), and lay down a fat synth lick on your beat. But, if your working offa software for sounds, the MPC is midi programmable also, so you could use it as a super advanced controller too. Me, I do beats with hardware and instruments, so a 2kxl is all I need, tho a 1000 would be a nice accomplice

thanks again
I have a question for you, when you do your tracking process with the 2kxl? lets say you have a 19 track song ,do you have to record all 19 tracks seperate, for example

your mpc 2000xl has 8 outputs right?
so you would have to record 8 tracks of simutaneously and then another 8 and then 3 more?

is there a way to sync my mpc with acid pro (daw with multi tracking and sync options) no diff then pro tools or any other daw.

considering the 1000 only has 6 outputs i would have to record 6 tracks in to my daw and then another 6 every time but how does everything sync?

thanks again for answering my thread i appreciate it

we on the same page about "tracks" here? LikeI use one track for my snare hits, drums, etc....and I hardly ever use more than eight, but if that were the case, then yes.

manic state wrote:is there a way to sync my mpc with acid pro (daw with multi tracking and sync options) no diff then pro tools or any other daw.

To my understanding, as a controller only.
It is impossible to transfer finished digital media back and forth from the mpc to computer. If your asking if you can load samples from the computer to your MPC, yes. But you cant control your MPC from the daw(i BELIEVE, I may be wrong)
The work is done inside of the MPC, not the computer if thats what your askin.

yes, you would. I guess timing mainly depends on your daw. I havent gotten that advanced yet, but my understanding is you can designate one track per assignable output. You could group them and then align them in your DAW. Thats hw I believe its done, and certain DAW settings help also, like sound activated recording. Me, in order to make it work imma just buy another interface speciffically dedicated to my MPC, and try to stay under 8 tracks. The MPC has 4 assignable outs and 2 main outs(Left/mono, and right stereo)
It takes alot of other nicknacks if you dont wanna be unplugging cables all the time, which I say is a wise investment. Oh yeah, cables. I would recommend RCA jacks and a small mixer, with 1/4 inch adapters. Ittle help with sampling sources.

tapuno, if you don't want to mess arround about aligning your tracks. you can slave the mpc with midi out of the daw.

i've done something like that in my early days of recording. i only had an interface with 2 ins and a sampler. i did everything, or almost, from the sampler, sequanced by the daw. when composing was done, i used to record every instrument from the sampler one at the time. after that i was able to mix and add whatever i needed from the daw.

i understand that you cant transfer out audio/data to the daw.
i guess what im trying to ask is how do i get my audio to the daw and everything to sync if i do it by the 4's. if i have to record multiple outs on the mpc i know for sure i will be using more then 4 tracks(tracks i refer to what you said ,snare, kick, hat, etc)
when sequencing i know im going to be doing some composing too,and my composed tracks usually will consist of over 10 seperate tracks, but i want them all to align with prior 4 i recorded.

i know there are many producers who have well over 20 diff tracks/sequences in there song i wonder how exactly they record all of them ,i seen brian michael cox do it,with mpc 4000 and pro tools, but im sure it was only 8 outs at a time and then anothger 8 ,and so on.

They alighn em by ear, by moving individual tracks to align with others. Takes some ime, but it can be done. Like I said, theres DAW tools thatlle help you with that, like punch in, sound activated recording, etc.

sorry to kill you with the questions my last questions are

i can save my songs directly to a harddrive right if i have one?
say i have a 80 gig hd that means i can save 80 gigs worth of songs and my sounds?
so i can go back to replay them or load them back up ,or am i limited to the amount of memory? like 128mb samples a certain amount of time, but once i sample in to the mpc say i have multiple beats i made and saved them to the harddrive that means i can load up all my sampled beats even if it exceeds the 128mb ?

and what purpose would a mixer serve can i just go directly from the mpc to the interface ?

jjos 1, the free one is dope, but lacks necesseties like autochop and direct record.
