I guess you would also tell me in Pro Tools there's no difference between Tick based and Sample based tracks.
It not whether or not you want to say it's still just a sample it's about what the unit is being told to do to and with that wav.

Looping a pattern is not Linear recording and you know that.

Songs don't start from patterns, beats start from patterns and patterns sometimes become songs but most often just remain beats.

I guess the old Direct appeals to you because of your methods but that just your choice not because it's better.

I'm a little confused, are you saying that you don't like the way direct recording is on the 5000, are you saying that it doesn't make sense to you or that it isn't useful or are you saying that if someone wants direct recording they should use pro tools or what? do you not believe in the existence direct recording?

I am relatively new to MPC1000 and JJOS1 4.99

so i saw the "direct recording" on 2500 stock Akai OS on YouTube
and was shocked to realise that there is no feature
as efficent as that on Any JJ OS ??!

this would b THE dream feature for me since i play sax, keys n drums in my production...and like to sample myself fast way.

any workarounds on MPC1000 with JJOS1 or OS2/XL?

On JJ OS'es you have to stop the sequence, then hit record+play on an audio track... the sequence will start playing and you can then record your audio on the audio track. The main difference between JJ audio tracks and Akai's direct record is that with Akai's direct record you can start recording your audio whilst the sequence is already playing.. On JJ's audio tracks you can't :(

Ok u guys bear with me! Im fairly new with 2500. On my JJ OS2XL i can hit Mode Pad5(record) go into record mode, hit play to start my sequence. And hit F6(i believe) and it will wait til i trigger sound thru my inputs and record it. Then ask me to save it to a pad or keep it as sample. Later assigning it to a pad after tweaking it. I dont wanna sound like an a**hole but isnt that the same as "Direct Recording"?

Lemme know if im wrong because im still learning my machine!
