Is MPC 2000 easy to learn for beginners

Is MPC 2000 easy to learn for beginners

Hey, im new to the forum. I am a huge Kanye West fan and I want to learn to produce music like him. I want to buy and mpc 2000 and i was just wondering if it takes easy getting used to because it looks really complicated.

Just some words of advice is all I am asking for. I appreciate it.

I have only used my 2000xl four times since I got it a week ago. First time was daunting and felt a bit hopeless, I read the manual a but and went back to it a couple of days later and figured a few things out really quickly. I'm now at the stage where I can program a simple sequence from drum hits, and trim/chop a drum break to allow me to do the former as well. Last night I was manipulating some 808 kick sounds to lay down some bass lines. My personal learning curve hasn't meant that I'm not feeling any frustration about the machine yet, which I'm really pleased about.

My next target is to get a better understanding of sequencing instead of just making a 2 bar loop, and learn how to give my beats more 'feel' and dynamics.

Have you with these type of instruments before? Before i got my 2000XL i had an ASRX. It made it easier for me to learn the MPC plus i was a DJ. I still had to look at the manual for things i didn't get. Like people said before you just have to stick with it and learn it.

I like Kanye style. He even said when he started his beats sucks until he got better, now you see what he's pushing out.

Remember everyone has to develope their own unique style

seriously, unless i am some wizard producer (i'm not) I don't think this thing is hard to learn on at all. I swear to god i've learned most of the things i wanted to know just by going through the menus on the device and seeing what options i can choose.

i'm now 9 days into ownership, pretty much completed my first beat and really like the way it sounds!

Dude, I cant recommend getting an mpc enuf. I've only been using mine for a few days and it is a great machine. Its taken me back to an almost childlike wonderment of music lol. Everything is new and exciting. Get one!

it's fine to get inspired enough by another producer's music to want to make some beats of your own... but the whole concept that if you get the same gear that they claim to use will make you sound like them is just ridiculous.

personally, if i was just getting into production i would go for a more modern model like the mpc2500 or 1000... they have 4 times more ram than the 2000 and you can drag files from your pc with the usb cable.

kanye west made "college dropout" album with Ensoniq asr 10 & Akai mpc 2000 classic

yet could get the sound on a beat thang if wanted too

it is all preference of the user
