Recording effect level adjustments Ver. 2

I'm trying to change the amount of effects applied to several pads one by one and record it into the sequencer. I have turned on the record events in the set up page and it allows me to record the simple track mixing, like pan and pad level. Is there a way to record the amount of effect applied during a sequence?

Brings me to another question. When I do record automation like this, how do I set it up so that the levels will "reset" themslelves so that the settings will be back to the original settings like I had before playing the sequence?

unfortunately no. only PAN & LEVEL is recordable (and even that is not possible in os 2xl).

the only way to do it is to manually move all the sliders/knobs back one by one. there is no magic 'reset' key.

a quicker way would be to make 2 copies of the sequence: one with the automation and one without. so at any time you could hop back to the 'un-automated' sequence and all the levels would be at their default.

Does this mean that when I play the original sequence it will set the levels to their original setting? I kind of think it would just play the sequence with the settings where you left them... It just seems like this would be a more common problem. The best way to solve this would be to have a sort of picture option. Something that would allow you to snap a picture of all of your settings that you could place at the start or the end of a sequence to reset everything. I also have this problem with my Fantom. If you have a sequence and record filter and resonance movement, you have to switch the patch and switch it back. This resets the settings. Anyways...

What about the Q link slider? I really don't use these much and really need to delve into them more. Is there a way to set these to control effects levels? I see that you can set them for each pad, will that work? How about having it effect the entire program, or at least the first bank of samples at once? Help me out Sooty! (Thanks for the help by the way)

you could copy the program a few times, make changes to the fx send amounts and use program change messages.

i just tested this out & you are right: if you have 2 sequences (one with mixer automation & one without) and you switch from the automated sequence to the 'unautomated' one, your settings will remain stuck at where they were when you switched. nothing gets reset. but...

yes! i tested it and using qlinks will work. if you switch sequences they will automatically jump to the correct setting. but there are a lot of limitations:

1. technically, you can't control LEVEL with the qlinks, only VELOCITY.

2: the only way to effect PAN & VELOCITY with the qlinks is to use them as a NOTE ON setting. because the setting is NOTE ON, if you want to fade in/out a long sustaining sample you are out of luck, since the VELOCITY is only set at the beginning of the NOTE ON event. for a long sample, your only option is to go back & use the MIXER automation.

3. setting PAN & LEVEL eats up your 2 qlinks, so if you want to make any other qlink changes (like ATTACK or SAMPLE START) it will overwrite your PAN & VELOCITY changes.


so there are really no good soulutions for what you want. best thing would be to request some additional features from JJ (like a RESET AUTOMATION tab in the MIXER screen or something). but the way JJ is going these days it doesn't seem like he is going to put much effort into the JJ os anymore, especially os 2 (and os 2xl is even more crippled in the qlink area).
