chopped sample loop cuts off when layering drums

so I recorded my sample, trimmed it, and with the chop shop assigned it to 8 pads...

I play around and find a loop that I want to record... record the loop

loop sounds good, now to layer the drums....

whether I'm trying to practice with the loop playing or if I try to Over Dub

the sample loop playing cuts off whenever I hit a pad (snare, kick, hat, etc.)


I went to MODE > PROGRAM - found the sample - went to PARAMS

I tried playing in both POLY and MONO, that doesn't help

then I tried switching the 8 pads from POLY and MONO and vice versa

so basically I tried all types of combinations but still can't get it to just layer drums while it plays...


how can I do this all together? any help would save me, I'm gettin a headache

MODE > PROGRAM > PARAMS and go to where it says "Play" at the top right and change it to POLY. But your samples are gonna over lap. Best thing to do is just put your drums on a separate program than your samples. Leave the drum program set to poly and the chops program set to mono!

just out of curiosity... do you have any clue why it is like this?

seems like it'd be a lot easier and helpful to be able to practice what drums you want while the sample plays

So when you chop a sample into a million pieces you can have each sample/pad cut each other of with one simple turn of the jog wheel, instead of having to manually set each pad to cut off the ones you want. You can play the drums while the sample plays. You can just manually set the chops to cut each other off, or just switch to a track that has you drum program on it. It is really simple

damn I feel stupid....

I think I figured it out...


I looped my sample and recorded it perfect...

then I just switched to the next TRACK (which also switches programs) and layered my drums on TRACK 2

and when I press PLAY START it's playing the loop from TRACK 1

so I OVER DUB the drums over what's playing on TRACK 1.... worked pretty well

Well, I think the blank tracks are always defaulted with the newest program that was created. So that's why it was a different program on a new track, but it could have very well been your sample program too, depending on when it was made in relation to the drum program. But you can change the program on any track. You can make new programs and assign whatever samples you want to it, even if the samples are used in another program. You can also copy an entire program and tweak it. The way I use this is if a sample has a dope bass line, I'll copy that program and put an LPF on it so only the bass of the sample plays (cut out the high frequencies). Then I will copy my original sample track, which I usually put on track 1, to track 2. So track 1 and two will be the exact same, except I'll change the program on track 2 to the new program I just copied and put the LPF on. So track 1 will have the high frequencies of the sample, and track 2 will have the lows. It's really easy shit once you grasp the concept!

or you can keep everything in the same program and just make your sample chops mute group 1, so just they will cut each other off and everything else will not.
