PLAYBACK FROMXL TO 4000

I had a play with a friends 4000 the other night and found running my xl data through the 4000 it played back some of the kiks and stuff totally diff'rent.

He is running 1.3 OS but the machine did kinda punchy and crisp which i kinda liked.

Has anyone eles had the same prob with XL Song/sample data

When i loaded some xl files into it the 4000 didn't cut the samples the same way....the kik trim was diff'rent.

yeah that really really really pissed me off... my 4k wont play almost any of my 2000xl beats.... you would think a $2000 machine would be backward compatible.... i lost all my old beats because of that.

but would you say the machine soundz alot better then the xl and stuff.

The 4k soundz alot cleaner, more digital.

but with the 4k you get Zero colouring when sampling thru the unit.

the 2000xl adds a slight colour to the sound. this is quite apparent with snare drums.

but thats what i love about the 4k, it damn right clean.

what you put in (whether thru the 4k or thru a full blown Apogee AtoD converter), you get out.


for me, the kicks on the 4k sound acoustically better, more wider dynamic range and all, and not has grindy and rumbly like the 2k.

also, its easier to make a clean sound dirty on the 4k with so many filter options. with the 2k you kinda get stuck when you need those zimmering percussions, unless you bypass the internal sampler.

to put it in basic form.

4k = todays cleaner sounding AD converters.

2k = older post 1995 designed AD converters.


a sampler is a sampler at the end of the day...and thats what ive learnt.


having seen how people use highend Tubetech Muilti bands, etc, the sound can be altered completely in post production.
