Favorite Jog / Data wheel ?

They're all so different I had to put this up, plus the one on my 2500 is really starting to annoy me . . . I've used every MPC besides the 5000, 500 & the 60's (but I'm assuming the 60's have the same data wheel as the 3000) and by far my favorite jog / data wheel is the one on the 2K classic, 2nd runner up is the 4000 and then the 3000 . The XL's is fine but is a little jumpy and the 1000 feels like it was made by Fisher-Price and not Akai .

The best is the 2k
The worst is the 2500/5000 followed by the 1k. They are both bad but the one on the 2500 and 5k are real loud and annoying. rreaaa rreea rreea. Super cheap and tacky!

My vote goes to the 2K.

I've been considering putting a different data wheel on my 1000. Any idea as to the best way to do this and the best wheel to put in?

ON the 2500 everytime u scroll u here a click. Not annoying to me but ur for sure the data wheel responded.
On the 1000/500 u have to scroll multiple times sometimes before the data wheel responds. I'd prefer the 2500. But the best one imo is the 3000. It has a soft feel (not so 'clicky') and responds very well.

I wish there was a groove/dent in the 1k wheel for your finger.

2K for me. The XL also has a nice one.

2000 classic. Mine is so smooth and sounds so nice. I need to sample this
I also like the s950 wheel. Its clicks are smooth to my ears. Of course it depends how it is handled over the time. The wheel of my s900 have a very loud annoying click sound although it should be the same brand and model.

I prefer my s900's over my s950's datawheel. My s900 is smoother. Plus if I spin my s950's wheel very rapidly it comes of, falls on the floor and rolls under my desk. That may also be the reason why I tend to have less love for the s950 data wheel.

If you are carefull enough you can take a screwdriver and use it to spread the axis a bit. BE CAREFUL!!!! You wont see anything happen to the axis but it work. (I guess if you will see something you overdid it and the axis broke)

If thats not yours you can also take a 5mm wide stripe of paper, place it in the hole of the wheel and put it on the axis again (just like some people tape the hole in the vinyl)

Nah man, probably leave it like that. A nice excuse to get out off my chair once in a while

2K Classic for Certain. Undisputed in my opinion.

Although In all honesty, I lucked out with my 2500 and got the smoothest of the sh!ty wheels. lol

Also for the record, we are referring to "Rotary Encoders" and the Clicks are actually called Indents.

Depends on the encoders used, but the ones that come in the 25/5 are definitely garbage.

By Comparison, although not an MPC....
the ones on my A4000 Yamaha sampler are pretty smooth although they wear out.

But for anyone that has every used an EMU sound module like a Proteus or a MoPhatt, the large wheel on that is SMOOTH as can be. I would LOVE that on my 2500.
