I check year and instruments. I also put the cover in to consideration. Type of label, artist, and any extra tidbits that album may have written on it.

I digg for the common genres but I love taking chances on unknowns, thats how you get started.

Punk music has some good nasty drums on some of the records ive picked up. Some country and odd ball records. Its amazing what you take from all these records and make.

I buy the occasional $50 dollar record too, but if its on cd at Borders for 12 bucks, I'm a go with that and lace some vinyl crackle and pop on the top myself to give it that dirt feel. With me, I just want the vibe, fu©k paying top dollar for rare vinyl when its cheap on cd.

I'm always making little lists for the next time I go digging. Usually I'll have four or five artists or groups, and usually one or two specific records I'm trying to find. I love to find new inspiration, so I'm always looking for new documentaries and stuff like that on YouTube. I also have kind of a mental all time list to always look out for... Most of the time I never get through more than one or two names on the list. I usually find something that catches my eye, and I end up having to put records back. But it's always good to have a lot of lists... as there will always be other days to dig.

i look for any genre between 1968 and 1977 some of the funkiest, most experimental stuff came from that era from soul to jazz to rock, latin, soft rock, ect....
